Borderlands 4

I am playing vex and on green tree. Working so far. Hit level 16 by doing some sides. Story says I am about 35% through.

I'd say the word "optimised" is referring to how good it looks versus how it runs. Which is really the end-all be-all!

You can split hairs, but I saw some comparisons that the lowest settings in this game look worse than prior games in the series and run way slower.

So if you're playing a game that looks worse, and runs worse, it's pretty much fitting the definition of being poorly optimised.

If the game's visuals were mind-blowing then I doubt this controversy would exist.
Thanks for proving that nobody using the word "optimised" knows what they're talking about.

This game definitely doesn't like any overclocking on the GPU, both my 5090 desktop and 4070 laptop crash much more often with even nominal overclocks applied, without it stable for hours. Not sure if the game is unique in how it taxes the GPU but be careful.

So anyone actually playing the game? 👀

I'm trying to. I just hit level 12 and am mostly doing side stuff. The story missions tend to take a while and if I happen to get a Teams message while doing one, everything goes bonkers. Not the only game to do that, but it's a pretty serious offender.
I didn't like the early sections much, but now I'm enjoying myself quite a bit. I'm starting to find my groove with weapons I like/dislike and how the gameplay works. It's a good game. Not a great one (at the moment) but I have 0 regrets buying or playing it.

Yup playing with Harlowe, took a bit to get used to the game, but finally got some decent weapons, nice legendary shotgun and a good purple jacobs sniper.

I'm alternating a bit between main quest and side stuff to try and keep my gear up to snuff

Dropped fog and clouds a notch and turned on DLSS iso the Epic one and currently running around 70 fps at 3440*1440

I ran into this too. What was odd is it ran without a crash for the first 2 or 3 hours and then crashed the driver twice after the last update dropped. Maybe it was just the area I was in though. Hard to know.

My card is shunt/volt modded so I bumped my voltage some and just maintained the same clocks. Game doesn't pull huge power anyway. That just took me to around 600w running 4k DLSS Performance. Been ok so far like that. Only time will tell though. LOL

There was information about memory leaks, so your crashes may be due to that as well. I'm not sure if they've fixed it, so keep an eye on that, but not your overclock.

Tough to know sometimes other than reverting to defaults and putting in a few hours of gameplay. But since it was a driver crash, I suspect it was my config.

Well updating my nvidia driver was a mistake. Game load used to be quick. Staring at compiling shades for 4 minutes now

Damn I spent like 4 hours playing the game today. It is definitely addictive. Dope. Still only level 17. Getting side tracked all the time.
Avoid side quests until you finish the Main Story Quest.

You'll want the easy experience to level up your new second skill trees to continue your progress.

Yeah, it seems like you basically want to do the main stuff ASAP and save all the side stuff for the endgame. Trick is, the main quests tend to take a while and I'm only able to play in short bursts.
I think you can do those quest board missions endlessly (or at least they keep spawning for me), so they're something I can pick up and do in 10-15 minutes.

I guess I should say I did notice that you will occasionally have to do bursts of side quests, and the MSQ seems to outlevel you in certain spots.

So "save as many side quests as you can" while staying in range of the mobs you're killing.

Sidney Pointylegs is my favorite to farm so far, it’s just a fun fight. The Oppressor is the worst, I did it twice last night and he was out of the arena when I killed him and got no loot.

I have been doing each boss fight 7 or 8 times for some extra exp and legendaries to try them out, only level 20 though
Yeah I did every single Rift Boss (the shimmer-y dome, that I came across. Be aware of the ones with knockback / singularity. You step 1 inch totally outside the dome and boss will despawn.
That's pretty gay.

That's what happened to the first one I fought.

If I finish the main quest I am never touching the game again.

Things are nice and smooth for me using DLAA, Badass, and 3x framegen. Fun game so far. Interestingly it's the first Borderlands title I've played. Never thought I'd like the cartoonish art style but it's actually really cool. The gunplay is good and it looks awesome on my big QD-OLED! 👍

I'm running it in 4k Badass DLSS Performance. Trying it with hardware RT on. Looks quite a bit different. No more crashes so far too after asdjusting the GPU OC. Haven't been getting any significant stutters since setting the shader cache to infinite either. Generally pretty smooth.

Where do you put that? I'd like to give this a try.

Yes, you can add it to the games ini file here,

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\Saved\Config\Windows\GameUserSettings.ini

You can also add an "engine.ini" file one level higher ("config" directory) with those options. The engine.ini file has to be marked as read only though, at least that's what I was told.

This is quickly becoming my favorite Borderlands game. I’m not even entirely sure why but I just can’t put it down, especially since my build is really starting to come together. Maybe it’s the QoL stuff, the double jump and glide, how quickly you can spawn/hop off your vehicle, the Moxi machine that lets you replay bosses, the Q to pick up items as junk.. I’d be playing this all day if I could.

I think there is some low level driver interaction when framegen+ dlss is enabled on higher level cards in this game that is still not working very well.

I think the builds possible arr just vetter also. The other games i feel you soent a long time with just garbage.

Yeah DLSS 'Quality' + FG4 is definitely misbehaving with high end NV cards, possibly driver related. Setting DLSS to 'Full Resolution' and keeping FG4 resolved the errors on my 5090 for now (unless a new patch introduces more), yeah FPS drops to 160-180 but I don't notice much difference vs 240.

Did you see any difference in performance? I just tried this on an ARC B580. I tried it on the badass preset to test just to make sure all the effects were enabled. It definitely did something because the colors are quite different, but shadows are about the same and I don't see any perceivable difference in performance so far.

What’s the latency at 4X?
