Aion Release

Havent had to wait at all to enter the game....just about to hit level ten..so far Im having fun.

How is the lag like for west coast players? I hear all their servers are east coast.

Im from Seattle playing on Triniel (East Coast) and its perfect. No complaints for the entire time I've played.

Yea, the queues are long... but I'm very, very impressed with the stability of their servers! Some rubber-banding but it's solid guys!

Just went this morning around 10:15 and was able to pick up my collectors edition from BB. I only saw a few pieces (3) on the shelf so it may just be that they did not recieve many and yours is sold out?

Edit...Colorado here :)

If anyone feels like answering, how does the game "Feel". Does it feel like a quality fun game? or is it just another boring MMO where you pay the high entrance fee and toss it by the wayside in a few weeks, unable to pick it up from time to time because you would have to buy a months worth of play time to do so...

In other words does the thing feel like 50 bucks + 15 a months worth of fun?

Take WAR for instance, I bought a copy for me and a copy for the wife. I couldn't pin down what it was that made it so lame, but it wasn't a game that called you back and made you want to play more.

This game is much better than WAR. My wife and I are MMO junkies. This game is GREAT for us. Is it anything revolutionary? Absolutly not. Besides arial combat and great graphics nothing much is really going for it. It has some unique classes but really its like picking Coke or Pepsi. The quest can be grindy but I cut my teath on EQ so grindy does not bother me. It may bother you though I dont know. I wish I had more time to play I am almost lvl 19 and hope to clear past 25 as that is furthest I got in all of the Betas. I enjoy the group dynamics, if you want to solo expect frustration. It can be done but grouping to finish Elite mission quest is a must. You can also blow through several levels if you just grind elites. They did nerf some of that xp but not as drasticly as I thought.

I hope you give it a look. My wife and I are enjoying it. Also the character creater is the best I have seen in an MMO. If you take it half way seriously you can create a truly unique toon. Or make the most hidious side show freak you can:D

I'm heavily considering the game but after being burned on two copies of AOC and two copies of WAR, I am waiting a month or so this time to see what happens.

Well, atleast you learned. You'll get honest reviews of the game in a month or two when it's no longer the new game on the block and people start hitting max level. That's when the honesty comes.

The Character Creator (CC) was a major deciding factor for picking the game up for me (besides all of my friends playing it). I've already made four characters and haven't done a single quest yet. My only complaint is that I wish you could have the characters do some emotes in the creation process as what sometimes may look fine in the CC may look strange in the actual game (I especially have this issue with lips). Sure, I would like some more fine tuning such as a muscle slider for those flabby fat guys and ripped nine foot girls we can make (had too much fun with the Champions beta CC), or make up for girls (I wanted to make a goth magic user), but the facial creation is awesome.

Now I just have to actually play the game. I had that issue with City of Heroes as well (40+ characters, only 1 over level 10). :D

bought the game at best buy..they had 15 standards and 3 collectors. there were NO time cards available..thats a mistake..anyway, 45 minutes for install/updates before i was in the game...no queues whatsoever. played for 9 hours got to level 12

game is gorgeous..music is great..controls are standard fare...flying is not intuitive, will take time to get control of that. theres a charm to this game...it will not kill wow whatsoever..solid 7 out of 10 score...i won't be playing a year from now, but a good 6 months of fun to be had unless end game pvp is just awesome which i believe will get old after a few months imho.

I pre-ordered from Steam and played in the open beta. Canceled based on that experience on the 11th. Pre-ordered it again on the 20th because my girlfriend was going ahead and playing so figured I would give it a shot. The last patch helped that decision a lot. So I bought again on the 20th, Steam showed the same key, and I played in the head start for a few hours. The next day my account was banned. I figured they must have finally gotten around to deactivating the key from the first time I bought it (which was true) and sent support requests to both Steam and NCSoft.

Steam got back to me first and said I needed to verify my game cache files and a new key would be displayed, and that I would have to make a new account. Now, this wouldn't have been a problem if NCSoft had closed the old key a day sooner, but now my character names were all on the permanently banned account from playing in the head start. I called NCSoft support to speak to them directly and was told there was no way to unban my game account, no way to apply my new key to that account, no way to delete the account, and no way to delete the characters. Basically nothing they could/would do. I called again to get a different CSR and try again, and while she was much friendlier than John (condescending), and actually talked to a supervisor, she was unable to help either.

End result is I had Steam refund my purchase. Absolutely ridiculous that NCSoft couldn't do anything to help me.

I can't pinpoint what is is about Aion that compels me to keep playing. It is gorgeous, game runs well, it does have something.... charm? Story ? I love the flying part, I found it quite easy to pickup after the first time or two doing it. The music is good, some of the sound effects I don't much care for but overall I just like the game a lot.

Nothing revolutionary, the ingame help system is better than any I've ever seen. The little mini tutorials rock , even though you wont need them if you're familiar with MMO's at all. The character creation is unmatched, almost rivals City of Heroes.

I would like to see more hotbars and the way they have bagspace setup just plain sucks, they definately need to improve on these two things. Also, they need to start kicking out of the game"logging the character out" of the people that leave their toons logged in with a store up just so they don't have to wait in the login cue. What a bunch of asshats......

A few tweaks here and there and this game will be great. It's good, it replaced WoW for me, thank God, it aint perfect, but I like it and will play it to the endgame there area lot of neat things and it's just fun.

I do have to agree about the above posters comments about NCSofts support... quite frankly it sucks. I payed for the game, will be paying monthly to play it, so ,to me that means I am their boss. Apparently they see it another way.....

When I played the beta the char creation was nice but it does not compare to Champions Online when you can change your outfit anytime you want, not just your face and sizes to your body. I couldnt stay with Aion I made the switch over to Champions. Having a ball with it.

I did pretty much the opposite. I'll agree that Champions has a pretty good character creator system (one of the best), but the rest of the game is just... I dunno. It's not a bad game but something seems missing. Well that and the horrible game balancing has to be some of the worst I've ever seen. Ah well, fun is all that matters in the end but maybe I'll check out Champions again once I'm bored with Aion.

Would have been fun to play the game yesterday. I get home and log in with a 5hr que. With only 4 1/2 hours to play this is no good.

Question, the GF just bought two copies of the game, but she lives a bit away. Is there a way to download the full game client and use the key she has for me? If not ima just remote into PC, build image and ftp it to myself lol.

There might be a option once you create your account to dl the client. Create a ncsoft account and apply the serial. Then check if there is something that says dl client.

I think what compels me to keep playing is that someone actually thought about the game as a whole. When I log into Aion I get a sense that there was actually some collaberation between the programmers and the writers / graphic artists / world designers.

When I played games like Champions Online, Warhammer, and Age of Conan, I felt like no one really thought about what they were doing and the direction they wanted the game to progress towards and just tacked things on at random. And in the case of Warhammer and Conan it's not for lack of background material, which was even more disappointing.

When I played World of Warcraft or Lord of the Rings Online I actually felt a sense of purpose and a reason to keep playing and leveling. I could feel the story and lore pushing my character onward. That's how I feel when I play Aion. It's a bit linear at first but honestly so are most MMOs in the early levels. Since I've only been able to play a limited amount in the beta I can't speak for how long it'll hold my interest, but for now I'm still always looking forward to logging in and playing.

Yep, you can download the client once you set up an NCSoft and Aion account. That's how I did it. All you really need is that key code from your GF.

Agreed, little things add up to a lot IMO. I noticed as you fight Your target will physically look and track with their head your movement, Rebound when they get hit. This is the first MMO I've played that actually makes me feel like my toon is hitting and being hit. Instead of 2 paper dolls wacking away.

My wife and I are on Ariel as well as a co-worker. None of us have had queue issues. I'm thinking many people are picking higher pop servers. Atleast it's one possibility.

Can anyone sell an ex-WoWer Aion? (figurative sell :p ) Does Aion offer semi casual play? Login for an hour or two but still feel accomplished? I don't mind a long grind by any means, but does it feel worth while? Or is it another rush to endgame before the game really starts? I'm looking for a nice journey and this game just looks beautiful...

WTB a freaking free trial though!

I'd say it's casual friendly. Took us 1.5 hrs to get from 1-10 after knowing what quests to do and where to go. After 10 though it kind of slowed down a little took us about 2 hours to hit 13. PVE wise so far questing "feels" like WoW but how can you improve on quests. There will never ever be addons except what NCSoft puts in. But, currently it looks like they took a lot of addons that worked for wow and implemented them in Aion.

For example theres a built in quest tracker that will locate the items, or mobs you need to kill, NPC's you need to talk to. If you don't want to use it you simply dont use it. Pretty unintrusive.

PvP I haven't experienced any yet but from what I've seen on youtube it looks pretty fun.
I've read PvP is skillbased influenced very little by gear. I've read that a guy in greens can beat a guy in orange items (epiced out) off skill alone.

You'll feel right at home... the second you log in you'll get 1 or 2 spams from gold sellers. :p

All I can say from playing WoW for 4 years is that it's nothing you haven't seen before, but it is well done. I'm enjoying it so far. The highest I got in the beta was level 15 (sorceror), but during that time I never felt like I was being pushed to level up. I'm looking forward to the pvp areas and winged combat. You can quest, craft, do daily/repeatable quests, or pvp, just like WoW. Some of the items you can buy and craft are pretty nice looking. I definately love the character/armor/weapons detail this game has. There's plenty to do if you just wanna log in for a bit. This is one of those games like WoW where you can take 2 weeks to hit level 50 or 6 months and still have fun, befitting your playstyle.

But if you're burnt out on fantasy MMOs in general, you're probably not going to care for this too much. If you're still wanting to get into a good fantasy MMO but are just burnt out on WoW, you'll probably enjoy Aion.

1450/1450 for the past 2 minutes! lol
1450/1447 o_O ???

I knew I should have stayed logged on while I was doing homework!

had to change servers... lag and queue was too ridiculous on Azphel. On Israphel now!

I just need to know one thing before considering this game:

Are there reputation grinds like in WoW?

No there's only 3 factions. The side your on the other pc faction and the npc faction that hates you both.

Today was the first day I got to really play I made it further then i did in CBT, I'm level 19 spiritmaster and having alot of fun. After getting over being pissed about the queue times the game runs alot smoother then wow does on patch day. I've yet to see a crash.

Furthermore the engine is better, i get better fps in this then i did when i played wow.

This game is really fun if you have friends to play with.. the exp grinding is a bit better than the chinese server I used to play on thats for sure.

does anyone ever get a random disconnect and have to log back in ?

Sometimes maybe like once a day while playing ill get you've been disconnected from the game and I wasn't idle I'd be like running around.

I got 2 random disconnects last night. It let me right back in the game without having to re-que wich was a plus.

A friend that plays the game is experiencing the same thing. He said as long as they leave you ghosted in the game and you can log back in without waiting he is fine with it.
