Aion Release

Quik update!!! If you use the NCSoft site to purchase the game do so during non-prime time hours. It took me 10 seconds from purchase to play when I purchased at 3pm, pst. My wife purchased at 5pm pst and the credit card authorization servers were so back logged it took until 9pm to clear. Hope this helps those who have not purchased yet.

does anyone ever get a random disconnect and have to log back in ?

Sometimes maybe like once a day while playing ill get you've been disconnected from the game and I wasn't idle I'd be like running around.

it happened to me yesterday for the first time. just randomly disconnected while i was playing and chatting with a friend in the game. i didn't even realize it for a while, the client kept going and it was only after i got a message from him on steam did i realize that i was dc'ed. i'm playing on the oceanic realm though, and i've only seen a queue once (which was like 25ish people, so it took about 3-4 minutes to get in).

what really pisses me off though, is how the client exits with a disconnect, or a login failure or whatever. it takes ages to launch in the first place (over 30 seconds for me) and you mistype your password or authentication fails and you're thrown back to the desktop.

No there's only 3 factions. The side your on the other pc faction and the npc faction that hates you both.

So when people are saying this game is a huge grind, it's just the leveling aspect?

I remember in the early days of WoW, the fastest way to level was not to quest but to just grind out the experience by killing enemies over and over again. Is that what people are referring to? If so, that's not so bad. I really just despise doing reputation grinds.

Damn friends talked me into getting this game even after I had canceled my pre-order during closed beta. Much more fun this time around when I have people to play with and my levels aren't being wiped (no more betas for me from now on).

They did a great job with the engine as the game-world looks great and runs smoooooooth. Character, armor, and animation details are pretty sweet looking too.

My only gripe is that you really need a buddy to level/grind with. My Templar kills so slowly solo that I almost called it quits yesterday night until my friend logged on. Any tips on moving things along quicker? I just found out you can enchant your weapons yesterday :D.

There are a lot of quests that will get you through levels easily. I haven't experienced a hard mob grind like in WoW levels 30-40. I find the game very enjoyable but like somebody said... it is moreso if you have friends to play with. Make sure to pick a server that doesn't have a huge queue line.

Well you rolled a templar... it's gonna be dreadfully slow. Re-roll if you want to level faster :p or grab an assassin to backstab bitches while u try to tank.

I'm a templar and it is pretty slow, but it gets a lot better when you hit 16, a lot of abilities to use by then so you've always got buttons to push.

I bought it. I know I said I wouldn't but I did lol.

The idea of no raiding, just abyss pvp and crafting at max level drew me in. I loved southshore battles, even when they were regardless. I have always hated raiding in WoW but I did it back in the day. These days I dont have time for that sort of BS, I work and have a home to take care of.

I made it to level 10 sofar. It feels like WoW had sex with Final Fantasy. 9 months later the baby popped out and sprouted wings. Its a lot harder than WoW and less idiot friendly. I like that about it. WoW feels so watered down and on rails. It is about as on rails as an MMO can be "This is the best gear, these are the only good specs, this is your rotation, you need to run this instance, then this one, then this one...". Don't even get me started on their PvP.

I haven't made it in far yet. I am hoping this isn't one of the games where you have to suckle guild teet to get anywhere though. I dont have time to work on my personal connections in a farking video game.

Same. Like you said at 16 you start to group up and it takes off fast from there.

That's good news. I had just dinged 16 before I went to bed yesterday. I better be a whirlwind of death when I get home today!

I'm so in between on rolling a character for this ame. Anyone have more good reviews / personal exp. to convince me to buy/play?

Questing is relatively fun. Key quests have cutscenes that basically show you where you need to go and the mobs to kill. Personally I haven't felt like I'm grinding out levels. Each area so far has felt fresh and distinct. I've read that the game really opens up at 25 but I till don't feel rushed to get there.

There is no grind X faction rep to get this key to do this instance to get this token to get phat lootz. Although you will get Abyss points for fighting and questing in the Abyss that you will use to get new gear. Think old WoW honor points to buy gear but PvE and PVP gives you points in the Abyss.

EDIT: Also wanted to ask any other melee class having a hell of time fighting while flying. The auto follow works well enough but I feel like I get disoriented easily.

levelling in all mmos is one type of grind or another. the game looks nice, runs nice, has some fun skill chains, and everything is well animated so I think that makes the levelling process easier and less boring. grouping up with people who are on the same quest chains as you and killing every mob from point a to point b is the most efficient way for me to level.

Start accepting all the Black Claw Villiage quests and level here with a group or you can solo at Gribade Canyon or Trader's Berth. At 19 head to Morheim

I'm a level 26 gladiator and for me the quickest way to level is to grind. Right now, I can grind 12k experience out in about 25 seconds.

And to answer your questions, there are no faction/reputation grinds that I've seen or heard of yet.

someone showing off their epeen.

Got the game. It just feels... right. It's polished, its smooth, its pretty... As an ex-FFXI and srsly ex-WoW it's just a fun blend for me.

I finished all the campaign quests in altgard as an 18 templar. I grouped for the black claw stuff and i had to get in a group quick to kill the 1 black claw bodyguard for the bone piece in the 2nd to last quest. But for the rest of them and the final one I was able to solo everything. you have to be in a group to go through the final portal in the tree place but I went in alone. I was able to pull the mobs 1 at a time and Kill htem and hten I killed the summoned boss no problem alone. Being a templar isn't that big of a deal. I really feel like I need a charge or something for pvp though. I got smoked by a spiritmaster who was 2 lvls below me in the free for all arena.

This, My mains a Gladiator, Sorcs keep wanting to duel me and when I foolishly accept they kill my ass way too easy, a little snare spell, then Frost/Ice and by the time I can move agin I'm done ..... sad sad sad
 lol

Gladiator gets a charge but it is like a sprint you control the direction. Also War class gets boned. We get our snare counters late in the game.

How late?

I just hit level 20 on my gladiator today. Having a blast.. I might need plastic surgery to make my head a bit smaller.. the helmet I just got is awesome

anyone wanna leave their in-game name/class and server choices? Was sorta the point of the thread. Glad everyone's enjoying the game though! Does anyone know any good/quick/cheap way to level up crafting? And what is the preferred craft to choose?

Use a Lesser Healing Pot to remove CC (sleep/tree/root) & use charge to increase your movespeed.

Sorc's aren't too bad, especially in the 20's. It's their 30's and 40's that you really have to start worrying.

I have a 24 Cleric atm.. just one more level till the Abyss :D

yeah i posted mine an see you updated it. I went spiritmaster. Maybe they'll buff them like wow buffed warlocks.

OMG, is Aion better than WoW? I just logged off WoW as a "casual" player. I made the mistake of joining a daily heroic. We failed unfortunately. I then was spit on by 2 of the group continuously and kicked out by the third....If I had been there before I would have understood the hate but this was a first time and the elitist stepped all over me...I'm hating myself and everything about WoW right now....:(

Better? I dunno there's still a 3+ hour queue. It's different not sure about better.

damn that's terrible :(

at least in aion, everyone is still a newbie so you can ask dumb questions or mess up and no one will rain down upon you like what happened to you.

Yeah the community so far (at least in game) actually seems quite cool.

The epeen kids in wow really get on my tits so it's a nice change.

I'm enjoying the game, getting pissed off with a couple of quests because people keep pulling mobs onto me and getting me spanked (Sorcerer, very, very squishy)

Duelling is funny though, you get three spells that hold them still before level 10 lol

That's messed up dude. But i do have to question doing a heroic if you've never been in the instance before. You should at least know the fights before you try it on heroic. This is also the reason i prefer doing runs with guild mates, it's just more friendly. If you screw up, you might get fun poked at you for a while, but it's not in a mean way.

This is what I like about the game, you can definitely see a lot more "rock, paper, scissor" mechanics. Making group pvp and other things better, and as the replyer said... using pots to remove the CC really tests your skill if you're paper going against scissors :D

So is this game PVP or PVE?

NCSoft is calling it PvPvE or is that PvEvP ? anyway. No PvP till lvl 25 then you can enter the Abyss. In the Abyss there is the opposing faction and Balaur and other mobs to fight, quests to do etc etc..... will definately keep you on your toes ... lol

Once you make it to Morheim as an Asmodian, or Eltnen as Elyos, I believe, there will be rifts that will open randomly throughout the zone, which you can then take to switch to the counterpart zone in enemy territory.

I went through a rift yesterday at level 24 and it dropped me in the middle of a level 28-ish elite area. Once I made it out of that, I was pretty much immediately attacked and killed by 5 Elyos. Guess if you're gonna make a trip through a rift, it's best to not go alone.

The Abyss is not the only area where you can PvP. One of our guildmates would watch for Elyos setting up camp with their kisk (apparently trying to do the spy quest in Morheim). Once he notices they are on the move. He would hit one with a snare arrow and they would instantly fall to their death.
