XBOX 1 vs PS4

Yeah but even the newest version of the Wii in store can't play gamecube anymore

That's why I kept my launch one.

The only current system that still has its backward compatible is the 360. PS3 lost PS2 long ago and Wii lost GameCube with the newest version that lays flat.

Just keep your consoles guys.

Knowing me, I'll probably pick up both consoles anyways.
 
I was just thinking, Since the average ps3 download for a game is like 7-8 gb (with the exception of uncharted 3, that was a 43gb monster) what do you think that the game size will grow to? 2 times? 3 times? As far as I know the blu-ray size Is 50gb. But there is a format (BDXL) that can hold 100 to 128gb, that should be more that enough for any x1/ps4 game 1080p game.

Side note, how pissed must Microsoft be to have to buy blu-ray drives from Sony after their backing of hd-DVD went to shit.:p

As far as I know multi-layered Blu-Ray discs will not be supported on (at least) the first iteration of the consoles, even though BDXL format is supposed to be compatible with current drives. What I think is that because the PS4/X1 is limited to 1080p those 100+gb discs will not be of any real use (compilations aside). I see discs of that capacity being a necessity later on when 4k is more common because texture resolution will need to be extremely high and uncompressed just so it doesn't break down in fidelity on screens that sharp. By that time these consoles (perhaps) and certainly later generations will have migrated away from distributing hard physical copies (a sad day) and to a downloading and service model of distribution.

The first release games will vary I'm sure from 15 to 25gb and go up as things advance
 
I actually want Microsoft to win.

I prefer their interface for Live, prefer their controller, and like the online system they have fleshed out. I also, frankly, like kinect. My wife and family use it all the time. And controlling my living room with one box would be very nice.

Which makes what they've done recently so awful for me. I have both the Amazon PS4 and Xbox One day one editions preordered, but I always planned to cancel one of them before it actually ships. Not sure where to go right now.

Meh? PCs can emulate a gamecube just fine. Already snagged images of all my GC disks via the wii before I unhooked it for the last time. (also got images of the wii disks given wii emulation is like 90% there)

Have a Soft backwards compatible PS3 but I don't use that either as things generally look better via pcsx2. (that one needs a bit of a beefy system to pull off though)

has sony's Gaikai service been explained? says it will stream ps1,2,3 games to the ps4 but i haven't found any details. what if you already own the game, will you need to purchase it again through gaikai?
