If we find out the release date tomorrow, when do you think we will be able to preorder it from EBGames and Gamestop?

Not sure why you'd need to. It's not like there's going to be any shortage and it's also not like those stores give you any benefits by allowing your to "pre" anything.
If you have time to pick one up from your mall store on release day, you have time to pick one up off the shelf at any other store sans paying them early.

I live in a small town, and I fully expect to be able to walk into a store and just buy it when it comes out.

...I won't tell you were I live, find your own Wii.

While there probably won't be a shortage, it doesn't hurt to get in an early preorder if you can and you know you want one at launch. If you can't, though, I probably wouldn't sweat it.

I wouldn't order through either.. they both SCREWED up the 360 launch. Try Toys R Us.

I was in the eb games by work at lunch (picked up castlevania for DS) and asked the guy there. he said if there's a release date announcement tomorrow they'll probably start taking preorders in the next few days.

The thing is, if there really IS a shortage, those stores don't guarantee anything anyway. Look back to the PS2 and 360 launches. Plenty of people did all of the pre-order mumbo jumbo and still got nothing for months. They guarantee you'll EVENTUALLY get one, but it's got a big 'ol asterisk that changes that to "depending on availability."
That's the problem. Pre-ordering doesn't do anything but allow them to report revenue differently.
You really HAVE to have one on launch day? Sam's Club opens up 2 hours early for buiness customers, but they dont' actually verify that anyone has a business class membership. You can walk out with one at 7am that way. Beyond that little caveat, everyone forgets Toys R Us, K Mart, and even mall toy stores like Kay Bee.

While that is true, the people who got their preorders in right when they started offering them DID get their 360s. What I was saying is that, if you can get a preorder, do it ASAP. But if you can't, I wouldn't worry about it too badly considering it looks like they'll have more than plenty for launch.

Also, even if there isn't a shortage, you probably won't be able to just walk into EB and pick one up on launch day. National chains distribute stock based on pre-orders, so if nobody pre-orders a Wii at your local EB, they'll only get a handful shipped to them.

I work at toysrus in the rzone and was talking the world leader of rzone (manager of rzone) and he told me he was assured by nintendo reps that nintendo will ship a sufficient amount so that there will not be any shortages and toysrus will not be sold out of wii's. Take it with a grain of salt I guess, but better than nothing.

They're planning to ship 4 million by the end of the year.

You might not be able to get one from EB, but you'll definately be able to walk into a larger chain like Wal-Mart and get one.

The GS by me has decided that they will NOT be having any pre-orders for the Wii or PS3 due to the X360 fiasco.

I used to work for Software Etc. (GameStop, Babbages, etc), and when I worked there, stores couldn't individually decide not to do preorders. It's either the whole company does or doesn't.

Regardless of whether the store is doing them or not, when you pre-order something like that (that won't be rare), you're just giving them an interest free loan for 2 months and giving them more and more reasons to keep sending tiny shipments to stores based on pre-order numbers. You might as well buy their in-store "protection" for the games you buy and let them include the $15 guidebooks as well. After all, if you don't tell them "no" - they'll just assume you MUST want those items and they'll include them for you out of convience!
As long as they're going to operate like hard-sale commissioned salespeople, you're better off looking elsewhere.
Let's also assume that they're getting these systems first. What if your store mysteriously doesn't get their shipment on the right day? What if your local Toys R Us breaks the street date and puts the Wii on sale a week early. There's just no reason to pre-order the Wii (or anything short of a PS3) at all. When you do that, you're just allowing them to report your revenue this quarter instead of next and letting them know that their wacky buisiness practices are okay with you.

i wouldnt bother preordering cuz im pretty sure nintendo wont be having a shortage... the majority of the hardware are already standardized, so it shouldnt be hard to mass produce most of it, i suppose the controllers are one thing, but that was pretty much settled in awhile ago... so since there shouldnt be a shortage, chances are you'll be able to pick one up no problem =)

I'm hoping we can get a list of places that will accept pre-orders when they become available so we can all snatch one up! :)

Me too dude. Until I have my preorder in, I wont be able to rest.

I'm definitely excited about the WII and the new gaming experience I've been gaming for nearly 25 years and am looking forward to the possibilities!

Might as well just send me $250 and I'll promise to send you one when they come out. You'd be accomplishing the same thing. For all you know, I might break the street date and send it early! Then again, maybe I won't get it until the day after. Either way, I PROMISE to send it when I get it. You'd be among the first on my list. The only thing is, you should make that $400, because I'll assume you'll want at least 2 games. Of course you'll need hint guides for those 2 games, so I'll just include them without asking you. You'll also need to insure your system! What if it breaks?!?! I'll add in $15 for that. Those pesky Wii games are known to scratch, so you'll need to include at least $10 to insure those too! I'll just ring up the total with that included, too. Don't forget that I'll knock the price down if you give me some used games! I'll buy yours for $5 each and mark 'em up to $30. Ebay? What's that?

Thats like saying I want to just get rid of this 250 as quick as I can. The reason I want to preorder is so that I can walk into ebgames the day it comes out and pick up my console without any worries.

my local gamestop is doing preorders on a store credit basis only (trade stuff in)

When I worked for the company, we gladly accepted cash and credit in return for said store credit.

If it were only that simple. There were thousands of people who took part in pre-buys and pre-orders for the PS2 and Xbox360 that wanted that very same thing, yet the mall stores weren't able to deliver or guarantee anything for months. They don't promise worry free anything. In fact their "waiting list" can easily become the employees and their friends if they so desire. I knew of one store when the PS2 hit that got in 15, and unless you were one of the manager's close friends - those 15 weren't you, regardless of the day you got on their list.
If you really want the Wii and don't want to worry about anything, might as well just buy it at Wal-Mart online in a few weeks. They're the only retailer that guarantees anything. When their initial alotted stock is gone - their website won't sell any more.

If I get my preorder in early though I should be fine. Like 4th in line would be good.

hmm i just called gamestop and they said the same as usual, "we are not taking preorders right now but u can go on the website and blah blah blah" but i did hear them say October is gonna be when they are gonna start taking preorders

I got the same thing about October.

There are two best buys near me I plan on being there 11/18 at 12:01am hmm guess that technically is 11/19. I do plan on having it preordered. Funny thing is I will have reward points for nearly the whole purchase!

Question for you. What state do you live in? Hawaii?

according to his profile, he does live in hawaii.

hawaii is the test state ebgames is using for their "trade in games (value of $50 traded in) in order to pre-order a wii/ps3.

hopefully this test fails.

Nah. EBgames(or whatever they go by now) got busted if I remember right by handing over preorders to people that bought them later based off the shit they bought with it. One of my friends was 4th at a eb for the 360 and they got like 8 in. He didn't get one because they gave his to someone that bought it with a shit load of other stuff. Pretty much they passed him up for someone buying one of the bundles they sell. He was pissed

Aye I do live in the isles. Hmmmm if this is a test I will forego the reservations. Some things are more important than busting out my wii before anyone else :p
Fucking eb/gamestop corp

Thats my preorder too! :)

I was going to take that day off anyways (it's my birthday).

I figure my "pre-order" will be to show up at any non-mall retail store in the Denver metro area on my lunch break. I've never had any issue ever getting a Nintendo system or release day. My Toys R Us had stacks of N64 and GC's the day (and week) of release. Based on what Nintendo's said, this will be no different.

 I said this before ><
