Wii Preorder Question

Yeah, I've got a preorder on the Wii version of Twilight Princess at my local Gamestop, but they don't do preorders for the console itself yet...

AFAIK, all the games officially confirmed for launch by Nintendo are available for pre-order (Excite Truck, Red Steel, Far Cry: Vengeance, etc.)
 
My dad works at a local Wal-mart as an overnight manager, he gets full view of all products and quanity coming in. I hope this helps me snag one.
 
does the release date of a Sunday seem weird to anyone else?
I know i'm going to get to my wal-mart early, just wondering if they'll let me stand in the electronics dept for a few hours waiting for the Wii, gotta love 24 hour stores.

Here is how I look at it. Gamestop/ebgames/whatever they are calling themselfs now is out for me doing a preorder. They did such a great job on the ps2 and 360 that I wonder why anyone would even consider it.

I pretty much plan on going up to like a target or compusa or somewhere like that and trying to buy one on the said sunday. If I don't get one no huge deal. I'll get one second shipment. I just don't really think it is going to be a huge issue.
 
Update from my local gamestop (where, surprisingly, the employees aren't total tools):


This weekend is a large company wide management summit and store managers are going to be learning their allotment amounts. As they'll get back to their stores monday, expect preorders on tuesday or wednesday. In the case of my local gamestop, they are only filling to the allotted number as guaranteed, and will let other preoder if they wish, but won't guarantee arrival until the second or third wave. Your preorder will be held for 48 hours, after which time if you don't pick it up, it's available to sell to another customer. If you don't pick it up and want a refund, just show your receipt for a full refund of the preorder amount.

YYMV at our local stores, but that what's happening here in the frozen north...

as far as i know.. yea.. white is the only color at launch..

as for size of TV. i have a 20 inch (I'm poor a poor college student)

Just white at launch.

Will be playing on a 42 inch.

A little vinyl dye and you can have any color you want. One of the nice things about it being white.
 
I was at my local Gamestop today the store manager told me that with little fan faire to announce it they are starting pre-orders on monday. Needless to say I will be there first thing monday morning to pre-order my Wii :D

Talked to local gamestop manager, no idea when pre-orders start. Supposedly the hold up is nintendo hasn't let the company know how many units they will be receiving, so until then no preorders.
 
Just called up and they confirmed that the info I received last week was in fact bogus. So still no word on the impending pre-sale of the Wii. :(
 
I called up today and the guy told me they had sold out of preorders for the Wii. I repeated myself and said THE WII? Then he said, "Oh, I thought you were talking about the PS3, no those preorders don't start till the end of the week."

That is what I was told (2 minutes before they let us in) but at least 2 people pre-ordered
the Wii today at a Gamestop or EB games. Check out the poll. Maybe they will get denied!? :eek:
 
I got the same info, Wii pre-orders are supposed to be this week ... which really only leaves about 2 more days...

The guy told me he didn't expect a healthy amount of pre-orders either, just a bit more than PS3s...
 
i havent decided yet.. it opens @ 8 am and luckily the one im going to just opened last friday so most people probobly dont no about it (its not even on their website yet muhhaa) im thinking like 7:45 not sure though
 
Hmm, Wii preorders start on Friday eh? I'll probably charge my Nintendo DS and wait outside of my local GameStop from 9:00AM until 10:00AM which is when they open. More Wii units are expected than PS3s, so I don't think it'll be as bad a mess as the PS3 launch.
 
Do you guys anticipate lines for the pre-order? And also, do you think they'll handle it like PS3, where they only give out X number of pre-orders, and then that's it? If you get one of those pre-orders, are you guarenteed a unit on launch day then, without waiting in line for hours again? From what I've heard, X is around 20-35 per store. Since I'm in the heart of Boston, I'm thinkin the higher number.

I know there's alot more units than PS3, but you think people will wait outside for the pre-orders? How far in advance?

Wii games looked pretty good at the Nintendo Fusion Tour. It looked like they were running 26" LCD HDTVs there. Yeah, 26" is kind of small, but the good news is that the games were extremely sharp and there were very little to no jaggies. Hopefully that means they will scale up well when put on 50" and 60" television sets.

Depends on your area. How were the lines for the PS3 preorders ?
I got down to my local EB right when they opened and was only the 11th person in line for 16 slots. So I'm not worried about a Wii preorder.

Now some places like California had people camped out the night before. In areas where the PS3 lines were early and long, it could be almost as bad for the Wii.
In a city like Boston, I'm thinking there maybe campers for Wii preorders. The hype from the PS3 preorders will drive up Wii preorders.

But I don't think they'll be that hard to come by on launch day. Get down to a Best Buy or Walmart an hour before they open and you should be okay. They'll have pallets of Wii for sale.
