I'm looking for the thinest and lightest laptop I can find and I'm just wondering if anyone can add to my list. The ones I am currently scopeing out on ebay are as follows...

Dell: X300, 700m
Fujitsu: P5010, P5020, P7010
Sony: T series, TR3A, TR2, etc..

Basically what I'm looking for is the smallest laptop I can find with the longest batt life. From what I understand the P7010 has one of the longest out of all those, but I'm not 100% sure what the X300 does. As for speed, I am looking for something more than 1ghz, the P5010 is 900mhz, but I'm hoping that will be enough. I'm giving up my desktop for a laptop but I will have one server running with all my old drives from all my old machines. I'll have a monitor/keyboard/mouse for when I'm at home as well, so no big deal if its got a small keyboard. I will be taking notes in class, but I've tried the P5010 and think it would work fine, the TR series on the other hand might be a little small.

Any suggestions are appriciated. oh and here are a few specs i am looking for..

Under 4-5lbs, 256ram, 30-40gb hd, usb2.0, firewire a plus, and must have vga out.
 
the X40 doesnt have any built on optical drives right? that would be nice, but I guess not a total need.
 
I have a sharp UM32W

it's a little over half an inch thich (including the screen) and weighs less than 3 lbs...

it's got a Pentium III M, 1ghz, 256mb pc133 sdram wifi built in. i love this thing :D

The Asus M5N does and it weighs under 4 pounds.

HOWEVER, the X300 comes with the Optical Drive media slice that also contains a second battery. IBM charges $300 extra for the media slice on the X Series.

I belive it was an option(not included) on the Dell as well.
Not to mention Dell does not offer it anymore.

*EDIT* Nevermind X300. I was thinking of the inspiron version.

whats the diff between V505 and.... oh wait... I'm thinking of R505 and V505... x505 is tiny... man that book is awesome but to expensive for me.
 
or, another option would be the VAIO T Series... around 1 inch thin and 3 lbs :eek: little bit pricey tho at around $2200... battery life is 4 to 8.5 hours, depending on what your doing. Also has a DVD burner...

how does the X300 stack up to the X200. I have one for work. I'ts really tiny, but if you want a CD rom, you have to have the attachment/ media slice i guess. I's love to have just the X200 by it self for websurfing in the livingroom.
 
was at frys tonight playing with the T150 and the T250.... :drool: lol it was so nice. so small. just out of my price range. even on ebay they are going for 1600. I am trying to stay below 1500 really. would like 1300 but whatever, doesnt look like thats going to happen.
 
i think you all forgot about the Asus S5N its lighter than the M5N with no built in optical drive, and its sexier than all the laptops listed above :)
 
did anyone see the question about CPU upgrade on the Fujitsu? any idea where u can get a P-M ULV 733? I see the 725, 745 and such... all starting at 1.6ghz on newegg, but no 1.1ghz Ultra Low Voltage that comes in those notebooks.

the X40 also costs you an arm, a leg, and 4 of your children, just like all the other thinkpads, IMO ibms are really ment for large companies that order thousands of these units for work purposes. it just costs WAY too much if your buying 1
 
Take a look at the Winbook X series:

For instance:

The WinBook X530 gets you, a 1.6ghz Pentium-M, 512megs of RAM, an 80gig HD, DVD-CDRW, etc... all with a 12.1" WXGA screen, with battery it weighs in around 4.5 lbs.

I've run them before and saw around 3.5 hours of battery life with wifi turned on... that was of course with the CPU scaled down to 600mhz.

Cost, $1250 after $100 rebate.

Basically all the same specs as others that cost hundreds or in IBM's case, a grand more.

However, it's only downside is the lack of higher capacity batterys. But, if you can get by with 3 and half hours on wifi time, then you're good to go.

If you can afford it, the IBM X40 certainly takes the prize... forget Sony at this point. I've seen too many problems with their laptops to ever consider one.
 
the winbook is actaully getting their laptops from an ODM called TATUNG, alien ware has that model too but with a diffrent top cover panel thing.

they are not bad notebooks but the graphics blows chunks on them (integrated intel extreme graphics)

Perhaps, but it's the same graphics card as the X40, which costs quite a bit more.

I've tested the Winbook X530, at full speed at scored 2500 in 3dMark 2001.

Not great, but hey, fast enough to play games like MOH:AA at 1024x768 with everything set to medium.

You dont go with a thin and light laptop for gaming needs, you go with one for travel, internet, and DVD's.
