Do I need thermal paste or a thermal pad when installing my venice 3200+ athlon 64 to my msi k8n neo2?

Oh god. YES! If you're using a retail heatsink (comes with the processor) I believe it will come with a thermal pad on it. This works, but I wouldn't suggest overclocking with it. If you're buying an OEM processor, you'll need a seperate heatsink and some Arctic Silver. They have a guide on their site for applying it.

if i buy a retail processor (will be getting an X2) can/should i still use Arctic Silver? I was thinking of using some AS5. I would still use the stock HSF, since I wont be overclocking.

goto arcticsilvers site and read the direction for applying AS5. you dont want to mess up the application by putting way too much.
