So why do/did you cheat?

Because people take videogames way too seriously. Losing a game isn't a life-threatening event. Some people react as if it was

Most players are accustomed to losing on occasion and I rarely see someone react as if it's a "life-threatening event." Don't compare "losing a game" to being beaten by someone that isn't good enough to play on their own.

I never have cheated in a multiplayer game but I have downloaded the original aimbot for UT, im sure you know the name, just to see what it was like against bots. The main reason for playing a mp game is to feel some sort of accomplishment from kicking the crap out of some 12 year old. Like the saying goes, "Nothing good comes easy", I can't see how you can feel good about beating someone in a mp game knowing you cheat.

I'm not one to sit and complain about cheating nonstop, because it is just going to happen and there's really nothing you can do about it. I haven't been playing UT2k4 much lately but I do remember when the bots first started coming out for UT, I played against a known botter w/ an invisible skin, all you could see was the gun, in insta gib and whooped his ass!!! Definately one of my prouder moments, and that's not something you can get or remember by cheating your way through wins.

I've never cheated in multiplayer games... there would be zero sense of accomplishment. For single player, I've only looked for help on some adventure games (i.e. Riven).

The TMNT game for the NES... yeah, that one was unreal. I don't even like thinking about it. But I'm positive I've either seen it beaten or have beaten it myself.

I can't even bring myself to cheat most of the time in single player... :p I can probably count in one or two hands the number of times I've used cheat codes, just not very amusing to me even after I've completed the game. I do use walkthrus on RPGs and adventure oriented games when I get stuck tho...

Man I can remember a couple of games I spent soooo much time on because I just refused to cheat but I wanted to complete them. Homeworld comes to mind at the moment, tough campaign. I don't remember which was it but there was a Mega Man game for the NES with some red fading computer-chip-looking blocks that took me ages as well (I was smaller then).

'Bout the only time I remember cheating online was Diablo 1 duping... I mostly gave away stuff or just duped money, heh, that game had some serious security flaws. The amusing thing about many cheats is that they don't even make the game more enjoyable...

Every single friend that ever tried cheating in CS would just tell me you actually played worse at first 'till you got used to it, then you'd just be so focused on seeing thru that wall or knowing who else besides yourself was cheating that it wasn't even worth it. /shrug None of the people that have posted they did cheat have really given any compelling reasons to do it either.

..why is making other people upset , and thus not enjoying the game, something that you would strive to accomplish?

Hey i bought the game to enjoy myself, why should i care what other players feel. Its not a lan so tuff.

..is shear boredom your "only" reason? ..and dont you think that maybe its a little selfish on your part to intentionally ruin something for somebody else just because of how "you" feel towards something?

..just wondering is all.

Its only a game after all. Yes shear boredom was the only reason. If someone wants to take this game serious, go practice at a lan or join tournaments.

Yeah cause all havkers were never good on their own. Did you ever stop to think, that some people get bored and add some spice to the game. When i used to hack cs, i didnt care about my score, but rather find new ways of having fun.

Maybe because other players bought the game to enjoy themselves also? I go to the movies to enjoy myself it doesn't mean I'm entitled to throw popcorn and yell like a retard.

Games are meant to be fun for all involved, not just one jackass.

Ok, so you're an amazing player. It just happens that you're so amazing you got bored with the game and instead of moving on like a normal person you instead linger around like a cancer eating away at the people who still enjoy the game.

Don't ask people why they cheat, most will not have even an inkling of a valid or reasonable answer... they just do, they may not even get that much of a kick out of it and could probably have more fun doing something else but they still do.

The original TMNT was so ridiculously hard. You know you're in trouble when the second level (the swimming one) is that damn annoying.

Well I'm glad a few of you [H]'ers had the b*lls to admit to it but your reasons are weak, BUT they also prove why you NEVER chat/respond to cheaters or for that matter spammers or smart *sses, either keep playing and keep your mouth shut or leave the server. It is quite obvious, and not surprising to me, that a portion of cheaters are just doing it for attention and to get a rise out of other players... just one more reason to label cheaters as lamers and pathetic losers.

Those NES days were so fun...I still have TMNT...

I don't dispute that it's beatable, but since you obviously don't think it's that hard, download Famtasia and the TMNT ROM image and record an FMV of you playing through the whole game.

I have but only under certain circummstances. I've only done it with RTS. I'll cheat when everyone else in the game cheats and everyone approves and is aware that it is occuring.
i.e Age of Empires. Everyone agrees to play against each other with instabuild and infinite resources. Its all for fun and things get REALLY wild when swarms of 100+ troops are fighting just outside you base. The rule though is that everyone must be aware
of it and approve of it.

Damn Donatello kix ass!!! He's the best...If you guys think THIS is hard try Ninja Gaiden...or even Ninja Gaiden II...O M F G !!! Got pissed off SO many times playing those games...

Back when I was 11 years old I would cheat my ass off in Doom.
idkfa, baby! That and Dark Forces. I didn't have the internet in those days, though. I grew out of the need to cheat before I knew what multiplayer even was.
The only cheating I've done in multiplayer is adjusting the damage of some weapons in Worms 2 without telling my friends.
"WTF! You just killed me with a single prod!?"

I fucking hate online cheats with a passion, but I DO owe it to myself to find the cheats and use them so I can know when someone else is using them. You can always tell. I will join a server, TELL the people I have a cheat, when some llama says "punkbuster wont allow cheats" I procede to show them punkbuster is not worth a SHIT. It sucks, it does not stop cheating. As soon as they update it the cheat sites have a patch to cheat it again.

But when I play online, I play seriously, no cheats, and take pride in a win. I catch fuckers cheating alot, no recoil hacks usually, and the occasional aimbot still...fuck them.

People who say they use hacks like ogc because the game is "boring" or to piss people off are just lying. When you are bored with a game you play a different game, and pissing people off is easy enough to do without hacks. The reason people use ogc like our friend bambi is because they their skills are subpar compared to the people they play with. It's as simple as that.

I'm gonna have to agree with Kong... I think more people cheat as a cry for attention than because their skills are sub-par. Most honest joes that suck at a game either stop playing it, keep practicing and get better, or just keep on sucking but enjoying it. Most cheaters out there seem to relish the attention they get when everyone starts accusing them and getting on their case..

Or maybe they just develop that attitude after they separate themselves from others by starting to cheat (maybe because they did indeed suck)... Who knows, like I said, trying to get an explanation is pointless. Just ignore 'em, not the best solution but it's the only one that doesn't add to the problem..

I've not cheated online ever... but in SP games I have, and usually the game ends up being removed from my system because if you cheat there's no point in playing. One exception to this rule was Grim Fandango by Lucas Arts. The puzzles kicked my ass after the first couple of hours, so before I threw my PC out the window I reffered to a "walk-through." I've played that game two times (the second time through I relied on the walk-through much less:D ) Wish I still had it... great game, great music, great story.

I've never cheated in any game.. although some games got me this frustrated that I thought about cheating.. but I couldn't find a cheat that would be suitable for me..

I've never cheated in MP games and never will. I enjoy actually playing them.

The only thing I ever do is clear out FF-on servers with some friends if the people there bitch a lot or if there's an asshole admin there I'll TK him, disconnect, change my name, and then come back (repeat however many times it takes).

Back in the days of Quake Team Fortress I tried the bug that made you a spectator that could attack. I did it when there were a few people hanging out at my house, it's just more amusing to watch than somebody playing seriously.

But that was years ago, I can't stand hacking or cheating now, best way to prevent it is just leave when somebody does it.

I just avoid doing PvP multiplayer, coop is fun too, and less hackers.

only game i cheated on was Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2. hacks are .cog files that you throw in a folder and instantly take effect. god and infinite ammo were the standard, but the most fun were the god saber, invisibility, and choke freeze. the choke freeze was awesome because it completely froze the character. they couldn't press T to get to the talk menu (this is how you banned people), they couldn't walk/strafe, nor use any weapons. all they could do was look up and down, so no one thought twice about them being hacked or anything. they usually ended up getting banned for not playing! good times.

another great hack for it was copy&paste. you did the force choke ability on any object, it'd hilight, and you duplicated it. it was great to get on the dark tower level and make stairwars to the bottom using the railways. good times. was more fun to modify the level than piss people off.

I just can't see how a game can be any fun when your cheating. I like to see how I "stack-up" against someone who is actually worth a shit. No I don't cheat in multiplayer games.

Never cheated at anything in multiplayer. I will use anything available within the game to win, regardless of peoples feelings or beliefs about it though.

Wulfram II, if anyone every played it, I had cargo sniping down to a fine art. When I shot at cargo, it died. Before I stopped playing, even after the modification to stop cargo sniping, I still could often get it as it hit the ground.

People argued it was cheating, called it unfair, called it everything under the sun. Fact is that it was a skill to shoot falling cargo out of the air and it was allowed in the game engine. I feel like playing it again actually...
