So why do/did you cheat?

I've never cheated in a multiplayer game of anykind , and think that those that do prolly have some kind of serious underlying personal problems.

I am a pretty competitive individual and think that (especially in multiplayer games) if you use cheats or what not , it really takes away from the "sense" of accomplishment (if wasting hours on end on a video game can be referred to as anykind of an accomplishment)

I do on occasion use 'walkthrus' on games that I have already beaten (like painkiller) ..or on games where I get stuck on a particular puzzle (like TRAOD) .. and have used "God" mode once that I can remember .. and in those cases , the cheating was to give the game some replayability and/or playability (in cases where i was utterly dumbfounded as to what or how to do whatever I needed to do next)

..I guess I'm particularly interested in those that use cheats in multiplayer games (or did) as to why do you do/did it?

I don't cheat in multiplayer games, but when I'm playing by myself, sometimes I'll use a cheat code or something to tear ass through levels with no regard to strategy. It's just fun. While it's not exactly a cheat, I also really enjoyed the Men With Hats code from MOH:FA. Nothing like seeing a Nazi sentry with a car or building stuck to his head.

Cheats are fun in single player in a game you have already beaten. Like twyztyr said, you can blow through levels with no thought about strategy, it is just FOR FRODO! Then kill everyone.

I only cheat when i get board with a game. Single players when i just want to beat it because i payed for a sucky game. The only game i cheated in muli awas CS. I just got good enough that it was no longer fun, but i still had the addiciton to play.

I cheat once I complete the game and theres no "true" replay left (no secrets or alternate ending). Its usually fun to run around in god mode and goof off. After my second time compeleting Jedi Academy I turned on God mode for the third play and you can really let loose on the saber! :D

Never cheated in MP in any game, in fact have never even downloaded or installed a cheat. I have ZERO tolerance for online cheaters, they are the defintion of lame/loser.

In single player I have occasionally used God mode, usually happens near the end of a game I have grown tired of but want to finish. I normally play the SP game the first time through at the medium difficulty level, or one below the hardest level. Honestly I do not consider God mode 'cheating' in SP, I mean if someone wants to play that way they paid their money, go ahead knock yourself out.

I tend to think the typical [H]'er is not a cheater, just does not fit the profile to me.

I only cheat when I've beaten a game. But in Doom 3, I have gotten almost to the end of the game, and had to re-install windows... lost all my saves.. so I'll prolly cheat to get back where I was, and then go back to legit mode :)

Bored not board :p

I think in SP, people can do whatever the hell they want. They paid for the game.

In MP, I think people that cheat have really low self esteem. They derive a feeling of accomplishment from winning and are able to deflect the fact that they cheated to do it. It's an interesting quality. It's like the Olympic athlete that wins a gold medal after having used steroids. Somehow they they think they accomplished something.

I'm extremely competitive, and I like to win a game, but I only get any satisfaction out of it if it was done fair and square.

I used a game genie to beat Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES. And those of you who have played it, know what I'm talking about.

Hmmm, there was an ending to it? I thought once you got to the technodrome you just automatically died.
;)

That game did rock. Nothing like running down the foot clan in the turttle van. :p

SP gameplay is fine in any reguard to cheat, because you only affect yourself. Cheating/hacking of any form in MP/online environment is just pathetic. No matter the excuse anyone uses for why they cheat, they are scum.

I wouldn't have any problem physically assaulting someone who cheated in my presence. In fact I'd get a great level of satifaction feeling my foot smash their face into glass covered pavement.

Lol, the technodrome. I can't believe how hard that was. If you tried to fight it with anybody but donatello, you were screwed.

Heh, how many of us have been scarred by that game? I think the whole game was a practical joke personally. I have never/will never cheat on a multiplayer game. Well, maybe if I ever really really wanted to play a good joke on my buddy at a LAN party. :p Other then that, I've cheated a few times on single player games. I haven't wanted to, but when you hit a snag and you just don't have time to devote to gaming like you used to, you just have to get through it and finish it. The REALLY good games though, I will take the time.

Cheating is boring. The few times I downloaded a cheat for a single player game I ended up not finishing it because it was too easy and I lost interest in it. That was several years ago and since then I've enjoyed many more games because I beat them on my own with no cheats.

And like other people said, I'd never even consider cheating on a MP game unless I was playing a joke on a friend at a lan party or something. I prefer coop games over pvp games, but still enjoy the occasional UT2004 match and wouldn't even bother playing if I was going to cheat. I also hate playing against cheaters which is one reason I've never bothered to get CS.

Ruin your own gaming experience in single player, but take it like a man if you're gonna play multiplayer and improve your skills instead of cheating.

I've cheated my way past a few points where it would be too frustrating to do it the right way (SP, of course). No specifics, my memory is to flakey. It's also nice to have cheats if you just want to check out aspects of a game. (I cheated in jDoom recently just to plow through a few levels and see how it felt, and it's immensely practical when playtesting starcraft maps against computer opponents.)

I read some walkthroughs when i get stuck, damn you silent hill! :p. I also cheated in counter-strike along time ago, lambert -1.01 anyone? lol

I've never cheated in multiplayer. That just completely defeats the purpose.

In singleplayer, I only cheat on games that I have beaten and rarely play anymore. It squeezes some more life out a game that you've legitamately beaten to death.

I considered using the fog cheat in Desert Combat, but decided against it (The draw distance in the BF1942 engine is a joke, though).

In single player games, I use cheats. Not because I can't play without them, I just don't have the patience to go and look for more ammo, or when to turn the corner so the gaurds don't see, I just want to shoot stuff, that's why I play FPS's in the first place lol.

As for multiplayer games, I will never, ever cheat because I believe that anyone who DOES cheat should just rot in hell. I play a lot of CS and DOD and whenever I see a cheater I immediately get turned off to the game. In CS especially, some people who hack are really just assholes about it. Although one time there was this speed hacker who got killed in one shot and couldn't aim for his life...that's the only time that a hacker amused me :D

i can't get past a particular level.

it's fun on multi to kill the cheater. then heckle them relentlessly.

it would appear that the general conscesus (sp?) is that cheaters in multiplayer type games , suck .. if you are one of these individuals that suck ..please chime in and tell us why you do it

..or if you are one of those individuals that spam the same message over and over (like in CS:Beta source) ..just to annoy other players ..again I ask "Why?"

..or are you one of those guys/girls/little kids that like to sing over your muffley crap sounding mic in games (again like in CS:Beta source) .. to you as well do I ask the question .. "Why?"

:) :p ..... ...... :(

I cheated in RTCW:ET once to see what the aimbot/etc did as research for my clan. It was kinda cool for a few min, but got kinda lame watching the computer pick off everyone. Well at least we know what to look out for ;)

A friend of mine liked to cheat in CS (sometimes just wallhack, other times full aimbot and speed hack) because he liked the reaction he got. It amused him to no end that people would get so angry about a game, and that there was nothing they could do about it other than yelling at him and then leaving. He would even have competitions with other people to see how quickly they could empty a server. I have to admit too that some of the insults he got were pretty amusing, but overall I couldn't understand his preoccupation with CS cheats. I guess I could not quite wrap my mind around deriving pleasure from the anger of others...well, I could accept it as a given but I still lack an intuitive understanding of it. I tend to be a pretty serious guy, and even though my "skills" don't have much use anywhere else, I do take some pride in them.

Oddly enough though, this same guy tends to be pretty good at games in general, and really good (even though they are smaller games, top-ranked) at the ones he likes. It was just CS that held this fascination for him. Maybe it was a result of all of the cheaters in that game? Who knows.

This is how all those that use cheats in multi-player games should be dealt with.

I know it's old, but it's still funny..

Oh man that idea is a stroke of genius lmao :D I think that's how all hackers should be rid of.

I used a maphack in Diablo 2. Cheating that screws over other people is just wrong (like the auto-grab hacks in D2). FPS botters are pain in the ass too, but the kids who go screaming about everyone who they think is a hacker are just as bad.

maphack in diablo, the game is just tedious without it. there is no challenge to the game at all, maphack just increases the speed of it to make it bearable (well back when i played) before the .10 patch came out i dabbled in a mephbot, just to keep up with the dupers. some people also gave me some hacked items like the wizspike ring, occy ring. that's about it tho, i didn't duel with them, i just played solo mf usually

in starcraft i used to use maphack because, well, everyone else did too.

in cs i'll ghost if i get the chance, which is to say, not often

I cheat when the game gets boring, if the game bugs out and I have to start a new one or if I have to play a part more than 10 times(So you know I was having a shit-fit while playing Ninja Gaiden :p ).

actually the harder the game is the less i tend to cheat...tedious games i just like to cheat and beat and then trade in for a new one

I began cheating in CS when the game got boring in mp and i wasnt into competitive side of it. So i went to dowload hacks and worked on pissing people off on purpose :)

..why is making other people upset , and thus not enjoying the game, something that you would strive to accomplish?

..is shear boredom your "only" reason? ..and dont you think that maybe its a little selfish on your part to intentionally ruin something for somebody else just because of how "you" feel towards something?

..just wondering is all.

Because people take videogames way too seriously. Losing a game isn't a life-threatening event. Some people react as if it was.

I cheat in SP cause I've beaten it so many damn times it gets boring and I set new challanges when cheating (i.e.: setting my HP at 50% beggining of every level, raising the bad guys hp, seeing how fast I can complete the game, etc..)

I also cheated in CS like 2 years ago cause I hated CS so damn much and it was funnay as hell to see ppl get pissed off and not know what the hell was going on (I was never caught BWAHAHAHAHA)...I don't cheat in CS or any other games anymore tho...too many other SP games to play and have fun with...:D

THANX
C'YA

sweet god. i hate that game. i refuse to admit it can be beaten.

no...seriously..it can't be beaten. nuff said

i dont cheat in mp games, i try not to cheat in sp games unless i really can not get by a part..but even then, i'm stubborn, so i keep trying and trying. once i've beaten the game, if i wanna screw around. sure. whatever. but not till then.
mp cheaters just make me mad. it seems pointless. a lot of them seem to just enjoy making people angry. reminds me of the kinds that always wanted to make fun of other people, but were afraid to get their faces mashed in.

People take games seriously because they take pleasure in winning. Games are a fun way to compete and, in some cases, make money. In that case, people take them seriously with good reason.

Never in multi. I cheated in Far Cry SP simply because the game is so hard.

i used maphack/pickit in d2, ogc in cs 1.1/1.2 (after i decided to stop hacking in cs, i realized that all of my skill had been drained, i play cs source a lot now, have been hack free since 1.3) and i used game genie all the time on sonic the hedgehog, and we used walk through doors gameshark code in goldeneye in mp so we could go into other parts of the maps.

trying to beat gradius 3 tonight, we used the konami code after getting to the super fast space tunnel level and dying for the first time, on hard mode. *twin lazer pwnz*

cheated in d2 cuz the game was getting boring and those things just streamlined the game so you can compete with ebayers and such, cheated in cs just to see what it was like, myg0t was much more of a force at the time than they are now. and other games just cheated for fun/it was too hard.
