R520 Delayed?

Hmm it looks to me that ATi Pulled a Sony. And by that I mean they decided to see how the Geforce 7 series would do and they're likely going to just utterly slap it down hard...like Sony did to the Dreamcast. Besides let's give them a little credit, the Unreal 3 engine is a large jump in gaming technology, they probably want to put something out that'll hand it at a sold 60FPS @ High AA, AF, and Resolutions. But..dammit they need to release the Crossfire series!

Well I see what you mean but the DC was stronger (Graphics wise) than the PS2. Sony Sold on Fan fare and the Sexy sleek look plus their previous market power.
I have both but I like my DC more I love the games more.
 
Well I guess we now know why they didn't have CrossedFired R520s in CompuTex. ;)

Gees this is looking alot like NV30 for ATI.

Nvidia is setting a hook for ATI... for ati to put something out that can slightly beat the GTX..and then BAM nvidia pulls a fast one and rapes all the 3dmarks... blah blah... cause we all know this isnt the best Nvidia has... when they very well know the specs of the R520... Nvidia isnt done people..
 
Note:I only read up to page 5 so, If I repeat or say something stupid don't take it out on me harshly.

I am quite dissapointed that the R520 is delayed. Although ATi is losing money, in my eyes I see them like Nintendo. They still go for the gamer who dosen't have money (agp) and charge cheaper. Ex. Ati's X850XTPE AGP 4X/8X is $100 less than the PCI X version. Like Nintendo, they keep upgrading thier current hardware, but it's usually pointless (ex. Gameboy SP and Gameboy Micro.) I haven't really been keeping up with video cards, but In my honest opinon, I see no point that Nvidia fans should switch to a 7800 GTX b/c, the real "next-gen" technology isn't here yet. ATi is probably delaying the release because they're losing $ and they want to focus on making the technology better and fixing thier mistakes. Also, to support us gamers still living with AGP.

They both have some serious fight in them, it's just that ATi has a big mouth. :D (I'm an ATI fan boy btw :p)

Personally I though that 24 pipelines was rather conservative of them, so far you can pretty much describe the 7800 GTX as a refresher for the 6800 line. Or atleast thats what it seems like to me.

How do we know it isnt? Do you work for Nvidia or something? Oh wait, you dont, and oh again, you dont know, in fact you probably have no clue.

Both of these cores have been in the works for well over a year, neither company is going to pull something out of their ass that can magically win everything. Both companies rather stay extremely close in performance with a slight lead over the other if possible, this way they dont have to spend so much in R&D and can stay away from hitting 400m transitors. Neither company wants to have to get to that point yet.

I think you have a bad understanding just how large the 7800GTX die is and how freaking complex it really is. This adds up to EXTREMELY bad yields, I'm willing to bet a lot of time was spent making these chips before hand so when they were launched it was ready, instead of launching then making or just launching with a limited amount.

im not a fan boy or anything.. i feel both video card manufactures have great quality.. and at the moment of purchase i got for the best performance for the price.... i could care less about image quality.. as long as i can browse the forums all day with a reletivly similar color to the real forums.. im good :D

and if anyone out there beleives buying video cards is like a religion ( stick with it).. then thats just nuts...( the video card part.. not the religion....)

I'm not hardcore mate, I'm a fan boy to them like I am to 3DFX, they'll always have a place in my love for Technology...but when you're out done you're out done :) (OMG I JUST SOLD A RIG TO A GUY WHO WANTED 2x7800GTX in SLi w00t!)

What would be the price point of the new card then? $700.... $800 maybe? Seems that'd be pretty ridiculous. And if you'd hope to see it at launch then they would have already had to start production almost. These 7800GTX cores had to be made a little in advance in order for them to be had so easily at launch.

I would like to believe the idea that there's another even better version of the core but I just have my doubts, or at least I have my doubts of it coming out in the next two months even three months, maybe by December but not any eariler I'd guess.

With over 300m transitors on the 7800GTXs core they'd have to do a die shrink in order for them to price the 7800GTX at $400 in order to make room for an understandibly priced Ultra version. This changing of the process would takes months to get right with yields that would be able to fill orders.

I just really dont see it happening and in the next three months I believe ATi will release the R520, and it'll be about 50% faster than the 7800GTX and I dont see Nvidia coming out with another card till at least December, and by then ATi will have had time to get good production and a tweaked core on a new process, plus revenue from the Xbox 360 sells.

You do realize that the cheapest 6800Ultra on Newegg is $417.99 while the MSRP on the 7800 is $599. I don't think thats too bad when you consider the performance increase.

What is your point? I'm not comparing performance, as that really doesnt matter at all to the price of the card. Its about an increase of transitors and complexity of the core, and you would want to add higher priced memory onto that too, and probably 512MB of it too. See where that would get you?

But rather: read my post. Rather than what you think, which seems wrong once again, price has nothing to do with performance. Why do you think the new highend is costing $600 instead of the regular $500, or even $550 for that matter?

i repeat im not a NV fanb0y.... infact.. im on a 9700P right now as my GT is in RMA.. and when it gets back ill then see if i need a upgrade...( cause my mind still things i got a GT :D )...
 
NVidia has to have 1 more card up their sleves. They have to. Otherwise the 7800GTX would have been the 7800 Ultra. Ever since I can remember, Ultra dubbed the fastest Card of the Series.

i really think it would be a good bluf if actually, nvidia didnt have a 32 pipe immediatly up its sleave, and in fact, they rushed to ship it ASAP to sell as many as possible befor r520 came up. ATI took the bait and delayed launch thinking nvidia had a secret counter-retort...

Why do I care? Because I make a living building custom systems and doing repairs for what amounts to my whole town, knowing and trying to predict hardware releases is pretty important to me not only as a "pissing contest" thing but as a means of paying the bills every mouth.

Go ahead and believe they have that Ultra they may do have it, but it wont be coming out any time soon and bit your ass it wont be cheap. If the release it when the R520 comes out I bit it'll cost close to $700.

ATI is taking there sweet ass time releasing the card, by the time the R520 is available Nvidia would have stomped all over on ATI it would be a little too late. but who knows.......

You cant remember too long ago then. Ultra is as old as the FX series. Its been in use a mere couple years.

and damn was the Geforce 2 Ultra a badass card when it hit... it could play everything.. Dungeon Seige 1600 max... ( good game look it up)
 
Nvidia always had cool names for there card (or suffixes)

Ultra, GTS, MX, Ti, Quadro ...er..FX?

and ati all they had was numbers until the "Pro" and SE....yeah great names...hehe all in wonder...

I dunno both companies have pretty bland stereotypical Names for the GFX Cards. I like ATIs more. As it is easier to say X800Pro compared to 6800GT and 6800Ultra. Especialy if you are like me and talk/type really really fast.
