That GCFscape is amazing. I'm applying these sounds to my windows sound scheme. SO funny. I'm using one of the turret's death phrases as my windows logoff sound.

after reading through the end song lyrics, i picked up something interesting.

Ok that map was pretty sweet and very well made, I died before I finished it though and never saved so I'll have to finish it some other time
Put it in your steam\steamapps\yourname\portal\portal\maps folder
then type:
map por_facility_001 or whatever its called (it should come up automatically).
Alas, it seems that Facebook staff has incinerated the Weighted Companion Cube. Pity.

Man, I have know idea what to do on that new player-made map. Anyone want to give me some hints?

I started that map, but looked around for 2 minutes and couldn't figure out where to go so I quit
Yep the map is pretty tough, but there is an exit from the first room, just don't forget to bring some friends with you when you leave

For those out there looking for what this game looks like on mid-range hardware, this is on my sig, listed below with highest playable settings at 1280X1024.
I've been watching my wife play through Portal the last few nights, and it's funny to watch how she gets stuck on some stuff I cruised through, and how on some of the puzzles that stumped me, she figures out immediately. It's been driving me crazy not being able to talk about the ending with her, or the song, or all the other cool stuff from the game.
After playing Portal again with the Developer Commentary on, I started up Episode 2, and was immediately irritated that I couldn't open portals to get around. Stupid Gravity Gun!

Coincidently, I watched my wife play from lvl 14 to the end last night. I had to leave at times because watching her fret over something so simple made me insane! However she did some parts with no problem, when I remember struggling at bit. She loved the ending and the song, but wishes there was more like me.

Love the voice over, and the turrets, oh the turrets. They are creeeeeeepy., I love them. I want one for a pet
The whole presentation reminds me of the dispassionate monotone of the HEV suit whenever you die or get hurt. Also the way the AI voiceover (or whatever it is, haven't finished the game yet) casually refers to death as a side effect also cracks me up.
It's probably the best blend of sinister and amusing I've ever experienced. Thats an amazingly fine line they walk.

I'm putting together a portal-based windows sound scheme. So far it's hilarious. Some of my buddies want to get it, but I am an internet file-sharing noob. Where would be the best place to put these files for others?

Well it sounds like you don't have a server, so try something like megafile or rapidshare or ??? can't think of other free ones off the top of my head.
How big of a file is it? (Zip/Rared)

No, no server. I haven't finished collecting, listening to, and renaming teh files, so I don't know how big it will be. I assume whatever ~20X5second mp3's will compress down to.

If you're using Valve-created material distributed with Portal, no. If you're using original material inspired by Portal, yes. If you make instructions on how Portal owners can do it, and distribute only those instructions (and not the material itself), yes.
Though it's not like Valve will care either way.

Weighted Companion Cube case, one of our own [H]ardforum members is taking the time to build his very own Weighted Companion Case for his computer! Take a look and cheer him on since he says he doesn't usually finish projects, and I think we can all agree that this NEEDS to be done!

I just beat Portal yesterday, it was so entertaining. I loved the overall atmosphere of the game, especially in the ending level.
I'm interested in this. Do share with your fellow [H]ardFolk when you've finished putting it together... !

I would love to but i am having issues. When I zip it, using winzip, and I send it via email, when it's unzipped all kinds of errors emerge...
any suggestions? I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to zipping etc...
