Its suuuch a mind trip what do you guys think? It took me 10 min when i first get the gun to really understand exactly whats up

Well, I've been playing for a little over 30minutes and I'm at chapter 5 of 11. Fairly fun, but a little boring. I'll check it out more tomorrow.

Ok, let me expand on my previous post. My current thoughts:

- Couldn't the game have some entertaining music? Half-life 2 had some good sound tracks that created some excitement, but this game is almost putting me to sleep. Well it's 5am, so that probably isn't helping.
- Like I mentioned, I'm at chapter 5 of 11 after about 30 minutes. At this point it's starting to become more open and not a step-by-step tutorial of the game like the first 4 chapters.
- Why is the character model extremely... umm... boring? It's a generic person with no emotion.
- No story. Yes, I understand the concept of the game, but a quick cinematic showing the name of the game, and who my character is, would be informative.
- Can't there be a little more variety in the level design? Different environments, textures, etc?

The concept is great, and I imagine the last few chapters will be challenging. But, like I keep saying, I'm bored, this game is definitely missing something.

Total mindfuck towards the end.

I just started Level 18, earning the "Fratricide" achievement at the end of 17.

I love the sick sense of humor, the sarcastic "announcer", and the weird turrets with the very creepy personality. It's quite odd to have something so menacing seem so childlike, it's very off putting.

I'm at the start of 17 / 19 in just over an hour... I feel like a lab rat lol. The turrets were pretty hilarious. I'm tired, so I'll continue later tonight.

I just beat it, and lemme say this: the ending was totally worth it. :)

Can someone please post some screenshots and/or videos ?
This is the only Orange Box title I'm interested in and would like to see a bit more of it.

Thanks

Definitely a fun game, but a bit short...I think I ran though the game very quickly, but it only took me 2 hours to beat it. Community created maps should be interesting.

2 and a half hours??!!!! What a rip off!!!

Just kidding. I didn't expect it to be that long, and it was an entertaining ride while it lasted.

If no one else does, I'll have some in the morning. I HAVE WORK AT EIGHT O CLOCK AND I AM SOOO TIRED.

Beat it... roughly 3 hours + there's advanced maps and challenges...

It's pretty fucking funny, I love valve... the "credits" is funny... the entire game was entertaining.

Orange Box was worth it, I may actually play episode 1 and 2... shit I never beat the halflife 2 either... or halflife 1... or opposing force... or blue shift... Hmmmm... I never liked single player :D

That ending....wow. One of the strangest things I've ever seen/heard in a game.

What does the "portal rendering" in the options do?

Just started, not bad so far. Still just a lot of training, though :(.

had to fire up the game this morning , and i played for 20 minutes... awesome , i love it!

they need to release a sandbox a la Garry's mod

Could you imagine a Portal multiplayer deathmatch? People throwing portals everywhere, chaos and mayhem and craziness like nothing seen before.

Now, have some cake.

grr...for some reason the female announcer didnt work for me after the beginning of the 1st level...anyone else experience this?

i havent played a lot... so dont spoil anything . But in the trailer we saw a dude running around... now were a girl.....

mm...

Anyone know how to get "the song" extracted from the game data? I beat the game, and want that song on my MP34 player.

"I'm still alive..."

BTW, the game itself was an amazing mixture of amusement and dread. I fear that Episode 2 is going to be a let-down after this... :)

So does anyone really understand the story all that well? From what I understand,

Aperture is a company that competes with black mesa for DOD and other government projects.

And that's about as far as I understood it. Anyone else have any other insight as to how this ties into the half life storyline?

BTW, I am dragging ass. IT WAS WORTH IT.

Also, I'll get those screenies after work. I get off @ 12:30 PST.

You know what Portal reminds me of, The Cube movies.

I made a cube puzzle (maze) in a map I made for UT2004, I used portals in the doors so you could fall through the lower door and come out the side one, or go through a side one and fall out the ceiling of the next room. There was only 6 unique cubes in the map but with portals linking them all rather than being physically linked it made a maze that seemed infinate.

Never got released though, but will be for UT3, it's the sequel to TempleOfTrials a puzzle/tricking map made for UT2004

I'd like to see some silent hill horror-like portal maps. Maybe I'll try and make one

Gah i'm stuck at the last level, in that room where theres lots of those squishing things coming from all directions, I have to get up somehow but all I see is some vent and a fence shutting something off behind it. The room is in form of a cube, if that makes things more clear.

Any ideas?

If I had to guess, it would allow you to set how far out the other Portal the game will render. Basically, it's "draw distance", specifically for when you look through a Portal. This becomes very important when you create certain Portal combinations that let you look down an infinite number of Portals. If the PC tried to render that, it would die, and there would be no cake.

I want to go back through the game, just to grab some quotes from You Know Who. Does anyone know of a program to read the sound and music files in the game? I'd love to use a few of the quotes on my PC, and that song haunts me; I need it on my music player!

I stacked a couple Aperture computers on top of each other in a stairstep fashion.

I used a crate

In the interests of not spoiling it I won't elaborate, unless you ask by PM :p

I strongly suspect there will be many disappointed people who think the Fire room is the end :p.

For whoever asked it, it doesn't really fit into the HL story at all, there's just a couple of (humorous) references to Black Mesa.

Yeah anyway, I thought it was awesome, and very funny, the turrets are awesome: "I don't blame you", and the computer is hilarious, I was literally loling over the credits. :D

If Monty Python made a source engine First Person puzzle game with portals in it, it would be just like this.

Hmm...

I thought I remember reading somewhere that the character from portal was going to be in the next HL installment as herself.

Did you not see the powerpoint presentation that was running in one of the offices?
