I've decided on a system with the following specs (questions at the bottom):
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-WW Black/Silver Aluminum Bezel Case
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
XFX PVT73GUGD3 GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video XCLIO
GREATPOWER X14S4P3 550W ATX12V 550W Power Supply - Retail
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200JB 320GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive (for use in an already owned external case for backup purposes)
LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write Black SATA Model LH-20A1S (2X)
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card
QUESTIONS:
#1 Seeing as Vista has just come out, I have been debating whether to purchase Vista Ultimate or XP Pro. Seeing as XP's doom has been sealed (although its execution is not for a while, Microsoft does have it in custody and has asked it what it would like for its last meal), the wise decision would be to purchase Vista Ultimate. Current C2Duo prices are very attractive right now, but I'm also concerned about driver support. SHOULD I:
A. WAIT ON PURCHASING MY BUILD FOR A FEW MONTHS UNTIL DRIVER SUPPORT IMPROVES?
B. PURCHASE BUILD NOW WITH XP PRO WITH THE PLAN TO GIVE OLE' BILL ANOTHER $350 BUCKS WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE YEARS?
C. PURCHASE BUILD NOW AND INSTALL WINDOWS 2000 (already owned) AND WAIT FOR BETTER DRIVER SUPPORT.
#2 Also, I have a lot of progs that I can't afford to update right now that I would like to continue using:
MS Office 2000
Paint Shop Pro 8
Diablo II
Sims
Basically a lot of 2000 to 2003 software. I can't afford to update and get a new build too, and I need a better computer first (on a 650mhz AMD K7 right now).
#3 Do you expect C2Duo prices to continue the way they are throughout the summer?
#4 When in Vista SP1 expected?
