There is also no rush because the new console only becomes relevant until there is a compelling first party launch title. They still have Metroid and Zelda to launch on Switch. I am not sure what the launch title will be but it won't be from either of those franchises. Most likely, they are finishing up a Mario game.

They obviously care at least a little bit, because they've prefaced every single livesteam and/or announcement for the last 2 years with "we will not be announcing anything about a Switch successor" to temper expectations for both viewers and investors.

Well, the fact that the Switch has a hardware hack that's impossible to block, it wouldn't surprise me a new console is coming soon. But with Nintendo, you never know when. There could be like 3 months notice.

Microsoft is losing globally.

The reality is MS is way too associated with White, Male, Conservative, Christians. Which are toxic now. Globally. It needs to run away from that image and those customers as fast as possible if it wants to stay viable.
I lol'd.. yes, MS is super conservative these days... /s

Anyways, regardless of Switch sales dropping off lately, that should have little to no influence on their existing plans for the Switch 2 launch. They're still selling them at huge profit margins at this point, considering they never got a price drop in the 8 years its been available, and thus still making tons of profit on them. So I don't expect the next Switch until Q2 next year at this point.

Which is fine, I'm actually enjoying my Switch more lately than I ever have. Currently playing through Metroid Dread after beating Prime Remastered, which was great since I barely remembered any of it from the Gamecube days. Next I guess I'll finally finish TotK and have the Tomb Raider remasters to play through on it too.

One thing I'm kinda dreading for the Switch 2 is the likely downgraded display it'll have from the current OLED model, as I don't expect them to offer that on the launch model to cut cost. As long as they don't use a LCD that is nearly as bad as the original Switch though, and maybe even with 90+ Hz and/or VRR supported, that could be a decent trade-off, but one I wouldn't expect either.

The Switch 2 (or whatever they end up naming it) launch feels like such a strange thing. Everyone knows it's coming and even Nintendo's own team have said that it's coming, but that's as far as any conversations go. Everything is in a very obvious and transparent holding pattern. I can't recall any new system launches that have gone this way before.
Seems they delayed it due to ongoing succes of the first one, but the hardware for the 2nd one has been ready for years according to rumours and they stockpiled tons of them to meet demand (more rumours I know) which makes the damn thing even more obsolete when it launches then the first one.

So yea it is going to be even more outdated.

Haha... Yeah, I guess I should have caved and bought a switch a couple of years ago, but I thought the new one was coming quickly :p. Here's hoping the switch 2 is backwards compatible as has long been rumored or ill feel like a total chump.

There has always been overlap between Nintendo’s console generations and it has been that way since SNES launched. The new console maybe launches with one, at the most, two launch titles that are must plays. The old console gets games right up to the launch of the new console and sometimes after. Having two Nintendo devices in rotation, the new and old, is common for me for years after launch.

Switch 2 isn’t going to dazzle us with tech. If there is backwards compatibility, it will be at parity with the Switch, it won’t enhance your old games like a new graphics card. Nintendo does not believe in that. They will sell you a remaster later. They are not going to make upscaling old games a selling point when they can sell you the old games again.

The games are tailor made for the system. Skip the hardware and you skip the library.

If it's like wii to wii u, or gba to original ds, I won't mind at all. I just want to play the games without buying superfluous hardware :). In retrospect, if I'd known it would be so long, I would have caved and just bought a switch followed by its successor at its launch.

This is why I think the waiting game mentality is stupid. If you're interested in it and the software that is available now, then buy it and enjoy it. Otherwise you get into a cycle of waiting for the next thing like with video cards.

Nintendo views the Switch as primarily a handheld console with living room extensibility. That means they're on the handheld hardware cycle. The original Game Boy went 12 years before a true successor to it came out. The Game Boy Advance is the only outlier with a 3 year life span, but the original DS and DS Lite extended it with hardware backward compatibility. If the Switch is the DS successor that means the DS had a 13 year lifespan. Throw in the Game & Watch with its 9 year life span.

I'm 100% sure the hardware is going to disappoint me, I just want a new Mario Kart and a new Smash. The only 2 Nintendo series' I really care about have gotten so stale that I can barely even play them anymore.

The only thing I could be disappointed with in the next Switch is if they regress back to a shitty LCD display that's anything near as bad as the original Switch. I don't expect they'll stick with OLED for it, but really hope they do, and if not at least put a quality LCD in it with decent contrast.

As far as computing hardware, anything based on the last few gens of architecture will be fine, given the performance they've managed to squeeze out of the underpowered-at-launch Tegra so far. And if it supports DLSS, it will do just fine for another 8+ year life cycle.

I'm hoping the successor brings back the clamshell design of the 3DS, but with Switch-style joycon rails.

Personally, I don't care if they go the same route and include a screen with whatever their new console is. I found the Switch to be ungainly for lugging around as a portable system. If I'm ever traveling with mine, I might as well lug around a full backpack or a laptop bag full of other stuff, too. Too big to be truly portable, too underpowered to be a good console. I'd rather have something better at one or the other vs. a weird hybrid.

Does anyone have recommendations for games? I only own Echoes of Wisdom at the moment. I'm 7 years out of the loop with the switch.

If you like Echoes of Wisdom, the remake of Link's Awakening would be up your alley. Super Mario Odyssey and Metroid Dread are both must-have titles, in my opinion. If you're into JRPGs the Xenoblade Chronicles series is good. If you're looking for stylistic action games Astral Chain is unique and fun, and the final game in the Bayonetta trilogy is a Switch exclusive. The first two Bayonetta games can also be had on the Switch.

Picked up a Power A wireless controller at work still want to use this laying down in bed. It's a Super Mario 3 theme controller regular price 49.00 but was marked down to 19.99. Picked up a Generic Onn Oled switch case too I was going to pick up a fancy case but this one has room for the adapter.
Plus about 12 slots for games.

Noticed alot of games share the same theme as other games but some are unique but alot of Nintendo games don't make do much history like your typical AAA game. But the switch is obviously a step up from the last console I purchased the Wii in 2006.

Luigi's Mansion 3 looks like a cool game so does Frozen Island but which so many games to choose you wonder if your getting the same game over? I might get Tears of the Kingdom but don't want a Time Sink. Alot of the games look fun ADD at that but don't have much for politics.

I'd have to check, but I think I've put the most time into Mario Wonder and Metroid Dread. The Tetris Effect is nice too. The kid likes smash bros, but whatever. Mario RPG is fun, but I dunno if it's really worth the cost. My local library lends Switch games, so if that's an option it's a good way to try stuff.

If you get nintendo online, Tetris 99 and F-Zero 99 are pretty fun. If they bring Mario 35 back, that was weird and fun too.

Picked up Hard copies of

Mario Odyssey
Kong Frozen Island
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

I was waiting in the morning for the girl in electroincs kept Youtubing viideos on my work phones stuff I never heard of to see if they are good or not.
One that caught my eye was the Grinch X-Mas Game which is a Platformer but looks really different. The new Epic Mickey looks cool too I never owned that on the Wii
but I think it would be too hard and time consuming. I saved 17.00 after using my discount card on all the games. I noticed they sold a bunch of copies of Echoes of Wisdom I would say maybe 12 copies or more.

Metroid Prime Remastered is a must play if you likes FPS. I mean it is a stone masterpiece. It is personally my favorite game on the system, perhaps tied with Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom and one of my top games of all time across any system.

I'd skip Kong Frozen Island unless you have a Donkey Kong itch that you must scratch.

Mario Odyssey is not one of the better Marios, in my opinion. Super Mario 3D World, however, is in my opinion one of the very finest Mario games of all time and is an absolute must play. It is the quintessential modern Mario game. A lot of what you see and hear in the Super Mario Movie originates from THIS game. It is a perfect game. Mario Odyssey is good, but highly overrated. Mario 3D World is criminally underrated although it originally launched with insanely good reviews.

The games that most urgently must be played are:

1. Metroid Prime Remastered;
2. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom;
3. Super Mario 3D World.
4. Breath of the Wild.

Picked up Asian copy of Dragon's Quest 123 off Amazon looks different than NES version from screenshots. I guess turn based games were inspired by old Dos Ultima.

The best version of Tetris is coming to Switch Online on December 12.

After 8 years of being on the market and zero price changes, Nintendo is actually raising the price of the Switch. Yes, after its successor has been available for a couple months already, and I imagine the Switch costs about $50-$80 to manufacture by now depending on which model.

This doesn't compute at all. It's not Tariffs either. Who dafuq would drop $400 on a Switch OLED vs the new Switch 2?

Pretty much every one that wants a better screen, battery life, in a good number of cases graphics, mod chips, mig carts, homebrew, cheaper accessory's ect ect ect. Nintendo is seeing the backlash and realistically an influx of OG switch sales and are wisely responding accordingly. Jackass move sure, but smart one

they did say "not any time soon"... but i dont recall nintendo ever raising a consoles price.

Primarily filthy pirates who want to steal games using a flash cart or mod chip.
Not all of us want to be basic with mig carts and mod chips. Some of us are fancy with OG switches that were once softwear modable :)

Yeah, so virtually nobody.. I'll be generous and say they're 1% of sales.
