Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is the newest franchise in development for the PlayStation 5 console from Naughty Dog, the studio behind acclaimed series like The Last of Us and Uncharted

set thousands of years in the future, Intergalactic puts players into the role of Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago...Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit...

This one seems promising. I like the future retro tech in the interior of the ship, too, as it reminded me a great deal of Alien.

I don't understand why people give shit about fictional character dying

Manly looking multi racial female lead character (who is probably also gay) in a game that looks ripped straight from Guardians of the Galaxy. No thanks

I'm getting zero GoG vibes here.

Why? LOU1 and 2 are one of the best games ever made.
The story in the first game is okay, but it falls apart by the end. The game itself was a mediocre stealth survival game. I never had an interest in playing the second game. I made it through 3 episodes of the TV show before I tapped out.

I liked part 2 way more. Surely it's not the most original story, but no other game has such an intense and high quality storytelling. Also for me it has the most satisfying combat and melee gameplay in a singleplayer game ever.

what?...you never finished Part 2 and also never finished Season 1 of the HBO series?...I literally just bought Season 1 on 4K Blu-ray yesterday when it was on sale for $19.99

still available at that price...

good to see Naughty Dog try a different genre...I like that they're taking risks and not content with releasing Uncharted and Last of Us games for the next decade

article is behind a paywall but it's an interesting read...

Neil Druckmann: Intergalatic is a return to ND's roots and the story is inspired by Akira and Cowboy Bebop

"The story is quite ambitious," centering on a fictitious religion and "what happens when you put your faith in different institutions," The story is set in an alternative universe where space travel has significantly advanced by 1986

Druckmann said it was a return to Naughty Dog's roots in the action-adventure genre that helped build the studio's reputation with franchises like Crash Bandicoot. It takes inspiration, he said, from classic anime like the 1988 movie Akira and the 1990s series Cowboy Bebop...more than 250 Naughty Dog employees have worked on Intergalactic over the past four years, in addition to outside artists in Druckmann's network

Developing new intellectual property can be nerve-racking because of the financial investment; Naughty Dog has had a series of layoffs over the past two years and underwent a restructuring that Druckmann said would ensure the company could operate as "an I.P. powerhouse"...It is about striking a balance of business and art," he said. "It is not just jumping on any opportunity to increase our bottom line"...

So your feelings are only about the protagonist's appearance and sexuality and not about the game itself?
Who REALLY wants to play a game as a bald headed space lesbian? I also wouldn't want to play a game as a short balding 300lb straight man either, but you don't see any AAA studios making games where that's the main protagonist for some reason...

The real issue is that if this is the direction they chose to go with the main character design, what does that mean for the narrative and story design? Neil Cuckmann at the helm doesn't exactly inspire confidence either.

only thing weird to me from the trailer was the 'Porsche' name on the ship...seems like strange product placement (or maybe it's just the name of the ship?)

It's not just the name of the ship. That's the classic Porsche font, and it's badged "984 Tempest NDX" in the same way a 911 would be. Interestingly, the 984 was a concept car from the 80s, and the article you linked mentions space travel being advanced by 1986.

The followup concept, the 986, went into production as the Porsche Boxster.

I just don't care if she is a bald lesbian. Her sexuality might not even be mentioned in the game. We don't know anything about the game yet. Honestly she looks pretty badass, maybe that fits the storyline better, who knows. The woke shitstorm about TLOU2 was fucking embarrasing in my eyes. I can't take this constant bashing seriously anymore.

The only thing I care about is if the game will be fun to play or not.

"With The Last of Us specifically…we don’t use the word ‘fun.’ We say ‘engaging,’ and it might seem like a minor distinction, but it’s an important one for us, which is, we believe that if we’re invested in the character and the relationships they’re in and their goal, then we’re gonna go along on their journey.”

Context is important.

yes I am SURE the person who made that pic had no idea there was other context  Lord, did Hershy make an alt?

Fun and engaging are not mutually exclusive.

Yeah...fun, engaging, not boring, entertaining. Means pretty much all the same in the end. I don't really understand why people spread this picture. It makes no fucking sense to me.

Because he made the choice in words to specifically exclude fun. Yes, seeing characters develop relationships and grow makes the story engaging, but you still need to work on the gameplay in between those moments. Otherwise you're just making a movie.

no it doesnt, because its true.

Which they did. Stealth, combat, melee is simply excellent and incredible intense. Every aspect of the game- mechanics, controls, level design, sound design, AI, accessibility options etc. is simply top notch.

But sure, if people want to keep hating, so let it be. Can't wait to see their faces when the new IP will probably sell millions.

it's Naughty Dog so it'll definitely be a major hit...I didn't love Uncharted 4 as much as the previous games but it got a ton of sales and accolades...this is their first new ip since Last of Us and it's a sci-fi setting so it'll break the bank

It will sell but I bet it’s going to be way under target. Didn’t tlou 2 sell half as much as 1? Gamers understand what’s going on now and are sick of the agenda being pushed. This is also a new IP so you don’t have the built in audience of the established brands.

as of June 2023, TLOU 2 is Sony’s third-best game in terms of revenue collected from PSN...the top spot is claimed by 2019’s Marvel’s Spider-Man (over $315 million in PSN revenue), and the second position goes to God of War Ragnarok (over $279 million in PSN revenue)

this is just PSN revenue and doesn’t include physical sales

Can you ask your crystal ball what the target exactly is?

And you think the reason it sold half as much is because of wokeness? Maybe you should do some research.
