as far as i can tell this stuff is fairly new, i only first saw it 2 weeks ago in akihabara.

not sure how it works (and gigabit speeds at that!) but it seems hella cool if you have to squease alot of cable through a small hole
 
If it's anything like flat phone cord, the wires aren't twisted but instead run side by side. For long lengths, this is very prone to crosstalk and picking up interference due to the capacitance between the wires. The twisting of pairs and winding of the cable helps eliminate interference and crosstalk. The only way I could think of where a flat cable would work is if the cable was shielded and the insulation was grounded, or grounded wires were placed between each active wire, as in 80-pin IDE cables. Either way, one would expect it to be more expensive.
 
well i know for a fact a 10 foot length of it handles gigabit flawlessly. and its sold up to 50 feet from what ive seen so it probably has less range down the wire than proper twisted pair.

I recently purchased this because I was looking for very small wires to use for a mod. The wireles are 32 awg, stranded, copper, with stress relief. They are 4 twisted pairs so it will work on a gigabit network but what makes the cable really thin is that it doesn't have shielding (UTP_. I bought mine from here:

The only thing that puzzles me on that page is what's the difference between the cat-5 E UTP and cat-6 UTP cable?

Ummm - most of the ethernet cable run today is unshielded..... even the non-flat kind.

Is there crosstalk on those cables? cuz looking at the diagram, there should be crosstalk because the pairs are not twisted upon eachother

You're right, the pairs are not twisted around one another. Each twisted pair runs in parallel. And I can't tell you if there is crosstalk because I haven't used it long enough before I cut it up :D What are the signs of crosstalk anyway?
