FF 13 delayed

Step 1) Take your caps lock off.

Step 3) Use them...

Seriously. Whenever I see a thread start in all caps like that, I just think "shut the fuck up" and move on.

Your quote is from 2008. The engine was developed for FF13, built around the PS3 specs.
They've been working on it long before they knew PS3's marketshare wouldn't support exclusivity. It is now multi-platform. They are porting the engine over to X360. Get the difference ?
You do realise this was all before FF was announced for the 360 right ? The white engine was multiplatform before it became crystal tools and the 360 version was announced in August 2008.

This from September 2007:
Square Enix's Hiromichi Tanaka said in a keynote address at Austin GDC that Final Fantasy XIII's foundations are built on the developer's "cross platform" White Engine.
http://www.psu.com/Square-Enixs-White-Engine-is-cross-platform-News--a1252-p0.php

In fact, the White Engine was originally developed for the PS2...
FFXIII was originally in development for the PS2, but underwent a platform change following May 2005.
http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/744/744822p1.html

...and has been optimised for both the PS3 and 360:
It's always a challenge to do multiplatform -- how did you address the multiplatform issue for contemporary systems?

Murata: Actually, there's SPUs for PS3, and multicore for 360 already [optimized]

Do you think that maybe... just maybe they didn't want to make too much of a big thing about it originally out of respect for Sony (especially as Nomura is a well known Sony supporter) and because of exactly the sort of meltdowns we're seeing now from people like the OP? The signs have been there for a long time.

Oh, and for what it's worth... I'll be buying the PS3 version because I reckon blu-ray will be an advantage for this game (high res cutscenes all over the place). That doesn't mean I subscribe to the view that Square are all of a sudden rushing to understand the 360 and the port will be all over the place.

I find it said that I am looking forward to a remake of an old Final Fantasy because I have lost confidence that square can produces anything new that is on par.

FF6 remake is all good in my book as well, even though it has already seen 2 remakes/re-releases. Hi-def Kefka Leo battle would be sweet, and considering we have Crisis Core maybe 6 should be next in line for a upgrade.

I keep wondering if the space limitation of the XBOX360 with just having a DVD drive is going to affect the quality of the game. They barely fit FF10 and 12 on a single disc for the PS2. Unless it goes multidisc...the PS3 will have a graphics superiority for a game of that much depth.

this game is the only reason I'll get a 360 or ps3 and by 2010, they should be cheaper.

@stevedave:

I kind of felt the same way, I've played all the games but they haven't been overly great. I end up liking the characters more than the game (specially 8) but FF12 kind of renewed my faith in the games. I found 12 to be exceptional after I got over the change from time based battles to free flow. Free flow really made battles more tolerable and I could deal more with the story than run- stop- wait- battle- wait run, repeat.

Least one thing has been 99% consistant with all FF games (except X-2) is the music is still top notch.

Does anyone think that they won't go multidisc for the 360?

yes all FF have top notch music. But I didn't like ffxiii's starwars fill, I didn't get very far as soon as I had to walk around rallying support for that one guy in the town I said enough with this game. That part was lame enough to end that game for me.

I think it's all of square games that have great sound; replaying Chrono Cross and damn it has some good music and it isn't done by Uematsu.

Chrono Cross! My favorite game! And I totally agree, the music in that game is astounding. I love it. I wish they could do more in the chrono series...

Yeah, the 360 version is really what's holding things up. Whatever happened to the PS3 version of TLR, anyways?

If anything, I'm guessing _localization_ is what's really responsible for any delays. I'm probably going to be be purchasing FF13 on PS3, but the OP is just pathetic.

Why do people want a remake of FF7? People would only whinge and bitch that it wasn't as good as the original, regardless of how awesome a remake could be.

The 360 version will be on multiple disks, just like LO, BD, etc.

The PS3 version is not delayed because of the 360. Glad to see people are still spreading false information.

Well, it's not and it is. They won't start the 360 version until it is out in Japan on the PS3. So they plan to do localization and the 360 port simultaneously. Now, who is to say which will finish first? :p

Their PR staff will say it's a dead heat. MS funding says it's a dead heat :D

FF6(3) > FF7 IMO. I would love to see a remake of that game. Come on, Kefka .. the fake ending, zozo, the world of ruin, does it get any better?

I think you mean FF6(FF3 US).

I liked FF4 and FF6 a lot more than FF7. Though FF7 was very good. I liked FF8 a lot too. I think my favorite is a toss up between FF4 and FF6 though *shrugs*

FF2(US), FF3(US), FF7, FF9 were all my favorites. I am replaying FFX right now on my newly purchase PS2. FFXII will be played next, I've never played that one. FF8 I didn't enjoy too much, not entirely sure why, just didn't like it. Maybe I should go back and try it again.

Pretty much agree with you 100%. I started playing FF12 and find it pretty enjoyable. Unfortunately, it's been a few months since I've touched the game, but I want to get back into it. I still get random urges to replay FF6/7, but I think I might hold out for a remake. I'll probably end up buying a console just to play FF13

even if this is true they would all enjoy replaying a crappy version and then bitch about it. Sales would be through the roof for what ever system it would be released on.

the only reason I see them not remaking ff7 is that they are waiting for a better console as PS3, Wii, and Xbox360 all have their large limitations. Wii graphics suck, PS3 hard to program, xbox360 small disk size no standard harddrive.

If the storyline and everything else is verbatim to the original (other than graphics of course), what would they bitch about?

HATED ffXII.

I think they have gone the wrong direction with Final Fantasy.

Remake FF7 you fucks.

agree with you 100%. The last 'real' FF game was X... if they want to use that stupid realtime gambit crap, at least give us the option of reverting back to the old school battle mechanism, seperate fight screens and random battles.

XII was an awful game. I had hope that they would have learned from it, but after reading that they're using a similar system in 13, I couldn't care less about it. If I wanted to play zelda, I would of picked up a WII. They're raping the franchise :(

I had huge hopes when I herd that they were going to have XIII and XIII VS. I thought one would be a classic Final Fantasy and One a Action RPG like Crisis Core. That is what I wanted but it sounds like I'll be shafted.

The worst part about it is that they are going to sell very well and people are going to love them so it's going to further the downward spiral till the end of Final Fantasy as an RPG.

I still have Atlus and Dragon Quest.

I wasn't too keen on XII myself at first. I had played FFXI online for two and a half years so I saw XII as nothing but a single player FFXI for awhile.

However, I gave the game a chance and I liked it but didn't love it. I felt the story just wasn't as fleshed out as FF7, FF8, or FFX. They would hint towards things like Balthier's past which would raise interest is the otherwise boring story and then never mention it again.

I did find the Gambit system to be very useful. You can really do some nutty things with the Gambit system if you play with it. The auto-leveling trick comes to mind. ;)

I didn't care much for the License Points. Having to unlock armor was stupid. The system just didn't give me the customizablility I was used to after Materia from 7, Junctioning from 8 or the Sphere Grid (This is my personal favorite) from 10.

I don't mind the "real-time" system they moved to but they certainly have to improve upon other parts of the game in order to make a "real-time" system really shine and make the game fun and memorable.

well, yeah... I can't disagree with you on a lot of those points. I just wish that they left FF how it was, and made a new series to intro all those changes. I'm a sucker for the old turn based RPG's (as a lot of FF fans are I'm sure) and was so let down when I played 12

oh well, at least there was Lost Odyssey :p

anyone know if 'the last remnant' is turn based?

For the old school amongst you, I highly recommend Star Ocean: First Departure, the PSP remake of Star Ocean. Fantastic little game.

The Last Remnant is turn-based. Pretty good game if you install it to hard drive and can overlook the technical issues.

yeah star ocean does rock passed it a while ago. Star Ocean second story will be coming out soon if it isn't already out.

I really liked 10 for plot, but absolutely HATED the size of the US sphere/grid system. Trying to unlock the whole thing was an exercise in pain. I think I spent 10 hours on it and still had more hours to go. At least with 12 if you wanted to get overpowered, you didn't have to waste your life (auto leveling/license points).

I "NOW" really hate random encounters and changing scenes. I used to not mind it...but now it just bugs the shit outa me. When I play a game, I don't want to spend 10-15 seconds switching to the combat screen and then seeing another loot screen after. To me, it is a waste of time. Go through a few 1000 combat scenarios and your game time is increased by 10-30% w/ no actual "benefit". BTW, in 12...if you don't like "gambits", just turn them off and turn combat to the "slowest" pace. It feels like turn based combat at that point.

Also, getting some of the weapons in 10 was just evil. A certain 200 lightning bolts comes to mind (the very first time I ever threw a controller was when I got to 198 and failed).

As for licenses...it actually works out quite well. It is actually much more efficient than the sphere/grid system. If you actually "focus" a toon on a specific function, you actually have way more than enough license points to overpower a character for the function (you earn about 5k by end game and only need about 3k). Certain weapons work better with certain armor (which was cool IMO). If you match them you amplify your damage/healing. The problem is people get "trapped" into the "need to have it all" mode or "make it equal". Sorry but wearing heavy armor with a ninja sword is just moronic at best. For example, I have a dedicated healer already @ level 20 (I'm playing it again). Wearing the right gear + focused licenses gets me big cures and curas (almost 400 HP). Pretty soon I'll be running decoy 24/7 and build me a tank (high armor + high evade). Then just craft a super DPS class (multi hit type) and go nuts. But...you can also make everyone "ninjas" (If you chose to have everyone unlock everything) and screw healing and have fun that way too (fun watching attacks go off like lightning).

Between FF12 and Rogue Galaxy...I found my "flavor" of RPG's that I like. I feel that 13 is going in the same direction and will probably like that. To each their own though.

strangely enough I vastly prefer 8 over 7....but of course I vastly prefer 5 over any other. as for remaking 7.......let me give a big fat MEH to that idea......that's where the series started going down the tubes for me. Remake 5, and make a good Mana/seiken densetsu sequal for a change.....
