Does anyone else not like Doom3???

I loved Doom3, Quake4 and Prey. I think the Doom engine is very good to be honest, it can't do outside areas like the Source Engine

It can't? if i remember correctly Prey had some larger outdoor areas, and Quake 4 had those badass outdoor fights in the vehicles. QW is D3 engine based too isnt it?

For the record, I LOVED D3 and have played through multiple times. I played HL2 all the way through once in DX7 and once in DX9, but it didn't keep me as tense as D3 did. Twitchier game perhaps, both good though.

Prey was good, Quake 4 was decent, and Doom 3 was bad. That is the general consensus every time I talk to anyone about these games.

I like both Doom 3 and Quake 4 better than Prey. I really didn't like the spirit world and the whole reincarnation system ala bioshock. Plus it was short as hell.

Doom 3 is not most people's favorite game and it may have disappointed some expectations. But I can't take anybody seriously that's calling it a "bad" game. Taken into context of all PC FPS games from the last 10 years, its anything but a "bad" game. Whoever says that, must not have played any truly bad games like daikatana or some of the third rate shooters from European studios, the names of which I've already forgotten. Chrome ?

Carmak had said that Doom3 was supposed to be a Doom remake...well...he delivered.

Doom 3 was Doom 1 with better graphics and that's what I expected of it. I enjoyed playing the game a lot and I still think it's good.

Technically, Quake Wars rides on Tech 4, which is essentially Doom 3 with MegaTexture 1.0 and some other specific tweaks. The same core foundation, but with a different name and some notable additions.

John builds engines for the games id makes. The original Doom 3 engine wasn't that outdoor-capable, because it didn't need to be for Doom 3, but it isn't shabby, either. A lot of the areas in Quake 4 are something like faux-outdoor environments built with indoor construction techniques (tweaked portal sizes, vis-blocking and so on). Source is essentially the same way, but it does leverage some mesh-scaling that's one of the biggest factors in outdoor performance, while Doom 3 does not. UE3.0 and Tech 5 are pretty much entirely different beasts, both being hybrid engines in some respects.

Enjoyed Doom 3 it at the time, but it got repetitive fast. I finished it then played most of the expansion pack but gradually gave up.

Some people need to draw a clearer distinction between games they simply don't like and games that are bad.

I don't like a lot of games simply because I have very specific tastes, but most of the games I don't play may very well be decent games in their own right.

Doom3 was ment to be clostrophobic, and dark, and have scares which made you jump out of your seat, and it worked, it did what it set out to do. If you're not into that kind of game then thats fine, but to call the game crap because of it, isn't really very fair.
