Borderlands 4

This is nothing new? Doesnt diablo do exact same thing?
Borderlands 2 did exactly that 13 years ago. Blizzard has been doing it for like 2 decades. Fighting games have "paywalled" characters for quite some time. The precedent for this has long been set.

Not at launch. They released an expansion a year plus later with a new campaign and character class. It's new content, not content removed from the original base game at the last moment with the intent of inflating the core sales price. Very, very different. Most fighting games do the same but I don't buy fighting games unless they are on deep discount years later so I never paid attention.

Exactly. It’s one thing to develop extras post launch, it’s another thing entirely to lop shit off that’s already complete and place it behind a paywall.

On top of it being an itch I’d like to scratch I’ve got 3 buddies that want to play at launch, so it looks like I’m gonna get it, but not happy about some of this stuff.

BL DLC has always been crap to me. I never was interested enough to attempt it.

Base game for 40$ is as far as I go with it.

Most borderlands DLC is good, most of the story DLC's are longer then a lot of AAA FPs games main campaign.

I guess developpers should just not tell anyone about future DLC roadmaps and just launch it when ready that way people might complain less abiout it beeing cut from the main game.

I like that they at least intend to support the game for some time to come and iron out some of the kinks.

I enjoy these games but knowing that a sale or discount is always on the horizon, paying full price is silly. I don't play online so waiting until after the popularity surge dies off is just fine for me. Patch and polish, an added bonus.

Here’s the comment in full:

The Day 1 patch does a lot! That said, the expectation for using a below min-spec machine should be that the game is unplayable. That the game runs at all on your system is a miracle. That you can get 55 - 60 fps out of heavy combat is actually incredible given how the engine and what's going on under the hood. Your specification doesn't indicate if you're on SDD or HDD, but that could also explain some of the hitching. It's a big, bold, new, seamless world and I'm sorry to say that older hardware may not provide buttery smooth performance for the latest gen AAA games, as has always been the case since the dawn of PC gaming.

Well sounds like the game isn't done being fully optimized, because the recommended system specs are rather high for this game.

I wonder if it's the silly and weird hand drawn / comic-book looking graphics? Is this style more demanding on [H]ardware? I recall when BL1 was first announced it had super cool looking graphics for it's time, then they made the switch to the cartoon drawn style, and ugh. I've never been a fan of the art style, just give me crisp / sharp detailed graphics, but it can still be done in a cool funky way. I just don't like the Borderlands graphic style.

I dunno, i honestly loved the art style of borderlands. It was fun and also something a bit more different and helped it stand out more.

Reminded me of the game Outlaws by lucasarts.

I had planned on picking this up Thursday when it unlocks but based on Randy's comments it looks like I may need to wait and see. It sounds to me like he may be trying to lower expectations and sugarcoat the poor performance. Hopefully that's not the case, but I have no intentions of being a beta-tester for 2K!

Agreed the art style is unique and sets it apart.

I don't hate it.

I would like an option to dial down the cell shading a bit though.

I'm wanting to get this game, so my highschooler son and I can play CoOp together. But for sure waiting on final reviews and more importantly real players reviews on how it performs.

I hadn't realized it was releasing so soon, 2025 has been blur-speed. No brainer day-one, especially since they seemed to have learned their hot stove lesson with the epic store timed exclusivity last time. Despite Pitchford being a screwball, the teams producing Botderlands games have always managed to churn out a fun, "gaming mac & cheese" experience.

Just purchased with code SEP15 on GreenManGaming (Steam version)

Those are actually pretty high recommended specs to play the game

I know on a site like this we've all got good [H]ardware, but the vast majority of players don't have those recommended specs.

I feel like we typically can expect BL games to run pretty well out of the box, seems like that may not be the case with this one.

I remember a time in the mid-2000s when people were complaining that Xbox ports for PC were dumbed down due to lazy developers and didn't take advantage of the PC's superior capabilities. I hate the constant video card upgrade cycle and price-gouging as much as anyone, but I do love the realism and eye-candy in new games like Doom Dark Ages so it's worth it to me.

People are really mad about no preload wouldn't mind calling into work on Friday but only have 48 PPTO. Which accumulates like 8 hours every two months.

There isn't another game I really want rest of the year untill 2026 since I'm not going to play BF6 with the secure boot issues I had.

Was excited until I read the fine print and was like wtf bro... so essentially I am looking at 120 fps with FG 2X. I don't mind it but still. Wtf. Can't make a cartoon game at 400 fps anymore?
I could agree if this was minimum settings, but this is max settings.

Max settings should be so detailed you get single digit fps on top end current hardware and min settings should be so potato you get 200 fps on a toaster.

Then everyone can choose their preferred balance of graphical detail, resolution, fps, and frame gen.

Sounds like it's more of the same, which is fine. It's what people expect from a Borderlands game. DLSS and framegen have come a long way in the last year. Hopefully they'll work well in a twitchy game like this. Borderlands = one of the few titles I actually play with KB/M vs. using a pad. The catch is that the inconsistencies with DLSS/framgen come to light more with KB/M.

Content creators on youtube playing it. It looks good. I'm not going to watch much to avoid spoilers.

I want games to push hardware again. Remember how much better each video card was when popular games ran like crap on max settings. It becomes a goal of a video card to brag about what it will be able to do with said game when released. Now everything is typically console limited so we dont get that anymore. I am glad borderlands is pushing it. Even though I grabbed it for ps5, because my pc is now in the full of suck level of its life haha. Wife and I will be playing friday night!

65.5 Gigabyte Download was expecting closer to 90 something must be compressed good.
Unless they just wanted that 100 Gig size for future expansions.

I have mixed feelings on this, because I'm unlikely to go back and play a game (unless it ends up being amazing) years down the line when hardware capable of running it at max settings finally comes along (if at all).

I'd be more happy with games at max settings pushing high-end hardware that is available when the game is released. Why would I want to wait years to play a game at the "ideal" setting?
