    Intel price cut charts

So that means that the computer I actively use (and occasionally game with) should have been thrown out 2.5 times by now? I still actively use pc'a that are pushing 10 years old as servers. Running the latest and greatest software still (2003 server). Last i checked nintendo wasn't still...

Switching from CRT's to LCDs, Recomendations?

Let me put this out there first. I love my CRT's. I've got a Sony G400 (19") and a IBM P260 (21") (both higher end CRT's in their days). I've always been hesitant about LCD's because of their fixed resolutions, refresh rates, colour depths, contrast ratios, but space limitations are making me...

WTB: CPU + Mobo v.Really Cheap

Looking for a cheap cpu+mobo combo to replace the mobo+cpu in my dns server, which is happily chugging along as a Slot 1 P3 500 (wooo katmai). Existing board lacks a power on after power failure option in the bios, and it's finally annoyed me for the last time (that said, the new board needs to...

    Can't find a case v.Chenming

Preface: I love my old antec cases, the cases that the no longer seem to make (yes, I know, they never made them, it was always chenming industrial mold corp). I've got a couple of 12xx's floating around, I built a few dozen beige box office pc's using 635's, and I've got a beige 6xx as my...

    Project: Galaxy 4.0

Wow, sucks to hear about your troubles, sucks when you hit a snag over something that seems so inconsequential. Can't wait to see the finished product. And performance-pcs is definitely filled away on my no-buy list (especially when I ran into the exact same situation with a huge case I bought...

The [H]ard Forum Terabyte Club - READ first post before posting

Was sorting through my webserver's images directory, and came across a few pictures from a few years ago of my setup before it was installed: Apparently I was still short the hotspare at that point, as I only count 11 drives. And here's what it looks like now:

The *Official* Post Pics Of Your Network Thread

I'll have to get actual pictures of the network once it's fully put together (the entertainment center isn't setup yet, just moved into the apartment last weekend), but here's the current layout (ignoring my roommates pc's). Edit: I've also got a diagram and pictures of the setup I've got...

    Fluctuating GBE transfers

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into both of them.

    Fluctuating GBE transfers

I've got diskeeper set to screensaver mode, so there's only 10 fragmented files on the mostly full 100gb partition that the rar was on, the fragments all being in system restore files, so it should be a sequential read, anything else that might be affecting it?

    Fluctuating GBE transfers

The desktop has pata seagate, but that should still be able to handle ~50mb/s sustained sequential reads, right? And the file server is a 12 disk raid 5 array, (3ware 7805-12 on the same 66mhz/64-bit pci bus, which shouldnt be saturating it), so it should be able to keep up. That said, I'm...

    Fluctuating GBE transfers

Finally got a gigabit copper switch and desktop nic so I could do gigabit to my fileserver, as I tend to transfer a lot of large files. Did a bit of benchmarking using a 2.13 gb rar, and found that it took about 4.2 minutes over the 100bt network, and about 2.08 over 1000bt, which made me...

Should I upgrade or build new?

I'm basically sitting in the same spot as you, only with a 2100+ instead, and I'm holding out until I can afford an entirely new system (as money is a huge issue with me), especially with what's just around the corner.

    Intelliwords

Just out of curiosity, has any ever clicked on an intellitxt ad ever? anywhere? I know I haven’t, where as I regularly click through on the newegg or monarch ads because of the deals they list. That and I know the banner advertising is tailored to the site (e.g., monarch and newegg, two sites...

Here's what I hate about RAID (maybe someone can change my mind)

This is why you don't just trust a raid5 array, any "critical" data on my personal array is backed up in atleast 2 other places, with atleast 1 of those places being external to the server. On topic, I have yet to see it in IDE devices (tho I haven't been following the market that closely...

    Post your "computer-with-a-lot-of-HDDs" here

They also sort of look like HP SATA drives/sleds for HP DL servers, but again, the photo quality is bad, so I could be mistaken too.
