ZT3000 Purchase

Hello,

My father can get a company discount with HP so I'm thinking about picking up a ZT3000 after much reading and thinking. I'll be going to a four year college in the fall of 2004 so I'll be using the laptop for Microsoft Office programs, Internet (AIM, stock/biz research, WiFi, light web design), music (CD Burning), and light gaming. I do not play any hardcore games.

The model that I have priced out has the following features: Intel Pentium M 1.4Ghz, XP Home, 2 year HP warranty, 256MB RAM (I'll upgrade this later myself), 40GB HD, DVD/CDRW combo drive, Intel Pro Wireless 2200 with Bluetooth, 15.4" WVA WXGA (1280X800), 64MB ATI Mobility 9200, Works/Money, 8-cell Lithium Ion Battery. All of this for $1289.91 after all discounts and the mail in rebate. I think this is a great price and my father agrees.

Would this be a good purchase for me? Is the WXGA screen okay? Right now I'm using 1024 and I don't want really small icons. A girl I know purchased an 8600 from Dell with a 15.4in screen and had numerous problems with it. I'd like this laptop to last me for about three years. Any reasons why I should not purchase it? I also get a free Microsoft Wireless Base Station too with the deal.

Note: Right now I use a 766mhz, 128MB RAM, 13.3in HP and have been pleased.

Thank You,
Lance

Sounds good, I like the wxga display, im sure you wont have any problems with it.

But definatly upgrade the ram, like to 512.

Good luck.

Good deal. The only thing I would think of to say is that even though your not worried about heavy gaming, try and go for the 1.5 atleast the 1.6. The added extra is well worth it esp. with the mobel systems. If you don't mind taking another look at another system I would also recommend the Gateway m505. It has the 15.4, a ati radeon 9600 and 512 standard. Also a 404 gig. Its a good all around system but the processor will be a 1.4 or 1.5. I would also recommed going through a retailer called recoup (Most notable on eBay) they sell them for no more than 1250. I almost bought one until I found about about my current 6805. I know you get discounts but the systems come with Gateway warrenties and are very very nice, you will tell just by looking at gateway and it will save you the hassle of going through rebates. ^-^

ALSO
If you decided you would like to part with your current laptop I would be happy to make you an offer upon knowing the full specs. I am looking for a system for my Girl Friend. ^-^

Ordered today at 3:00PM EST.

Intel Pentium M 1.4Ghz
Windows XP
256MB RAM
40GB HD
DVD/CDRW Combo
Intel 2200 Wireless and Bluetooth
15.4" WVA WXGA (1280X800)
64MB ATI
Microsoft Works/Money
Battery
2 Year HP Warranty

I used the PC2039 discount code that I found while searching. With my dad's discount I paid $1341.92 before the $100 rebate. So final price will be $1241.92. Expected ship date is March 29 and I got the free shipping.

I'm more than happy with purchasing this. I went up today and looked at 15.4" screens in 1280X800 resolution and it's perfect for me. Plenty of space for programs, but the icons are not extremely small. I'm excited!

Have a similar laptop compared to yours(x1030), let me just add one piece of advice. If you plan on carrying it around alot make sure that you get at least a 2 year warranty on it. I bought my laptop back in december and last week I had to take it back to get the screen fixed(backlight was going out) and I was having problems seeing the harddrive on boot. It's a great laptop and everything, just be aware it's not as durable as I would like.
