I bent my adapter as much as I could to close the side of the case, now it doesn't get stuck. It does not touch the side of the case. There's also no reason to spend $150 to replace a perfectly good 5 year-old PSU because nV and PSU companies colluded to change to a negative net-gain "feature".
I have a relatively little-used ROG Thor 1200w that is using the 4x PCI-E 8-pin to 12v-2x6 on this same Zotac 5090. Works just fine with no temp issues at the connection, just like it does with thousands of others.
I thik the issue with most of these adapters, when used with a proper GPU, is they get torqued easily when the case panel is added back on due to the extra cabling protruding from the side. In my case, I don't even try to put the left case panel on since leaving it off helps with airflow and my PC sits in a desk hutch anyways.
The other problem is that some cards are much larger than mine, so bending the adapter probably won't help either. It depends on how much space you have in your case because they're not all the same.
Either take the case side down or buy that 90 degree adapter.
