XP Virtual Memory Setup

hey all - hope someone has some insights for me!

usually i don't mess with virtual memory - from all accounts, windows manages it's virtual memory reasonably well.

recently i had a friend reccomend that i put the swap file on a separate hd or partition, aside from the windows installation partition/drive, so that only the small partition becomes fragmented from swap usage.

so i have recently built a new machine, with a 36gb raptor. yay.

i have partitioned the drive into a 30gb partition - put the windows installation on that - and a 5gb partition - which i have assigned the swap file to.


my questions are:
1. does anyone know the optimal way to manage this?
2. is this less efficient than having the swap in the same drive as the windows installation partition?
3. would it be better to have the swap file on a different physical volume?

If you have enough RAM, you aren't paging to disk, so the page file settings (location included) are not relevant to performance.
