i was upgrading to xp sp2. about 3/4's of the way through (upgrader said it was "finishing installation" and "cleaning files"), it froze. upon restart, windows loaded, but no taskbar, start button, or desktop icons and i pretty much couldn't do anything.

any thoughts as to how to fix this problem?

start in safe mode, restore to point before installing service pack (if i'm not mistaken, the installer creates its own restore point). hopefully you can boot to safe mode still.

it won't let me restore to before the upgrade. i tried to restore to the earliest point, but it restores to still having sp2.

i can get the desktop and all to load, but the itis running ridiculously slow and getting hung up on things that it shouldn't get hung up on.

any thoughts on how to get it back to normal?
