I'm sure you all get plenty of questions like this but any help would be appreciated. I put my new rig together a couple weeks ago and I'm starting to overclock it now. My setup is as follows:
XP-M 2500 - with a volcano 12 and AS5
NF7-S 2.0
512MB Corsair XMS3200
Fortron 530W ps

A few days ago I set the proc at 200x10 and ran it like that until yesterday. It was running pretty well though once or twice when I shut it down I would get a explorer.exe not responding.... I didn't know if it was a fluke or what since it only happened a couple times.

Yesterday I bumped the FSB to 205 and as soon as I got into windows it restarted. So I restarted and tried to do 205x9.5.... same problem.... I then set the FSB back to 200 and bumped the multiplier to 10.5. Got into windows, then tried to run super_pi. It locked. So I bumped the voltage from stock to 1.625V... No change.

I finally decided to take the FSB down to 195 and then put the Multi at 11.... Its been running fine since (no more explorer.exe not responding messages). The voltage is back to 1.575V.

My question is, is the RAM whats limiting my FSB? I was under the impression this was decent RAM. I've loosened the timings to 3-3-3-8 to see what happens... no change. I haven't adjusted the voltage yet (I think it's at 2.66V, I'm away from the computer now). Could a voltage bump change this? Lastly, could it be the nf7 or the processor?

Ohh and my temps are 36C idle, 39C loaded. Case is at 24C.

that ram should be able to run 205 fsb no problem. its probably your cpu not liking that high of an fsb....whats the stock fsb on a mobile, 266? and you put it up to 410?

I really doubt its the CPU..... A XPM can easily do 205FSB with no prob, its just an underclocked Proc. thats been "Hand-Selected" meaning its going to run higher than a regular XP.

Also, you had it at 205*9.5=..........1946mhz..........=Didn't Work..........and..........195*11=..........2145mhz..........=Worked
This is a 200mhz OverClock and it runs still, if it was the CPU limiting it shouldn't work

So, its going to either be your RAM or your Motherboard.

So see if its your ram, put the tight timings @ 200 see if it works w/o error. If your ram can do say... 2-3-3-6 or 2-2-2-5 or some variation of that, its probably _Not_ your RAM.

Also.... Some ram just need more than 2.6V to get past 200.... I know my Geil need 2.8V @ ANY timings, Period... Its just this requirement to run, even though its listed as 2.6V.

Just for reference my XPM, thats in my wife's compuer now is @ 2.2ghz @ 1.575V.

So the motherboard.... If it has an option for Chipset voltage increase it, as long as you have a fan/heatsink on it just throw it to its higher. Also try a different BIOS.

If that doesn't work check just your voltages on your PSU. Hope that helps.

i can run 260fsb for a little while, 245 is stable though

205 is a joke, i started at 220 and worked my way up. even with fairly cheap pc3200 i could run 225fsb, pc4000 gets 260
 
Ok, I had time to tinker with the computer again...

I first took the multiplier down to 9x, then bumped the FSB up to 205 again. I then set the ddr voltage to 2.7. I saved the settings and then got the 'dont power down while saving the settings blah blah blah'. Then the message left the screen, and it sat there blank for a little while, and then the monitor went into standby mode.... So i shut it off and pulled the cmos jumper. I'm running it at 198x10 now..... I even set the ram timings to 3-3-3-11 when i tried to the higher FSB.

Does this offer any more insight as to what the problem could be? If not, I will just keep tinkering and trying what you guys said.
