Well recently I posted about an issue with my os giving me freezes, such as when I close my windows media player and try and hit start it takes like 2 seconds to pull up, and when I hit add new hardware and then try accessing another menu it lags... I tried all sorts of things to figure it out, only to install everything but the drivers for my x fi fatality board... its the problem and its causing lag in the os, not in games... or atleast none that I notice... here is my setup, also I'm running windows x64 pro...

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD 3700+ SD Core OCed at 2.75 ghz
2X1GB mushkin XP4000 DDR500 running at 250mhz 3-2-3-8 2.6v
2X74GB WD raptors running on NVRAID RAID 0
BFG 7800 GT OC running stock
X-Fi Fata1ity FPS sound card

Anyone else have or had issues, I don't have a copy of windows pro 32 bit... so I don't know what the deal.

Ps sound is amazing lol.
 
Strange, I have xp x64 and x-fi. don't have such problem.
if this is only caused by x-fi driver..., did you try uninstall driver and use onboard audio? this solved the problem you have?
I think you may need to try complete uninstall and clean folder and registry, and try reinstall again to see this problem happen again.
 
I did a fresh install what drivers are u using and are u using anything else? Do I need to config the card at all? I mean I am lost lol
 
no... in fact, I installed newest driver first, and installed others without driver later.
I prefer not to install other softwares and startup things (I hate!). I did it later because I need to use my remote for I/O drive - so, I needed some software (I don't know what it is though) to make my remote work.
 
nForce4 boards and X-fi don't like each other. Your mobo bios up to date?
 
I also saw a lot of complain about that (x-fi and nforce4), that was the main reason I was reluctant to buy x-fi.
But I also heard about good thing with the same board w x-fi, so, I bought and totally satisfied w it.
yes, I usually update everything as possible, so I'm using newest bios and chipset driver from nvidia.
 
Yah I updated my bios... and have all the updated drivers from nvidia... I am not really sure what to make of it, I am hoping after getting vista and doing a clean install this issue may go away... however drivers for nforce4 x64 vista drivers don't appear to be available... just have to cross my fingers and hope :rolleyes:
 
I have seen many people complaining about audio artifacts when using nForce4.
I googled "nforce4 + audio + test" and found this:

RME is I believe professional audio company.
Apparently on nForce4 boards the bus gets clogged so that any non-video data suffers.
Audio is the most apparent problem, surprisingly, with any sound card.

But if indeed the PCI traffic is the problem then try a different slot (some might be mapped to e.g. network chip and share the bandwidth). Also you might try changing PCI latency value in the Bios or with the PCI Latency Tool (you can download this for free)
 
Just make sure the X-Fi and your video card aren't sharing the same IRQ. That should resolve any sound issues.
 
well with the overclock on and my PCI set to 33.33mhz does that mean I cant mess with my PCI frequency or anything? see if that helps at all? cause I tried switching PCI slots... any ideas?
 
so I just disabled my network card and the pausy thing is doing better... blah I cant figure what the hell the issue is still... I checked if it was sharing IRQs nothing is now that I have changed it around a lil but what about sharing I/O ports and Memory? and what about changing latency on my PCI? I changed my 33.33 to Auto to see if it would make a diffrence and nothing. my mind is boggled
