Bought my son Xbox Live membership for xmas. He was able to play it for about a month and a half, then suddenly he cant connect to Xbox live. In a multiplayer game it asks him to login, after he does it gives him a message saying unable to connect. The games will update, he just cant connect.
ISP is Roadrunner, using a netgear router with wifi. Also connected to my home PC (works fine), Wii works fine as well.
Went thru online xbox support. Followed steps listed, no help. Chatted with online rep. for about an hour, ended up even trying to connect using a lan cable instead of wifi, nothing. Rep blamed it on Roadrunner.
Contacted Roadrunner, they are saying everything seems fine, its either Xbox live or Netgear that's the problem. They suspect its something to do with ports needing forwarded. Told me to contact Netgear.
Netgear will not give me support without me paying them because the router is more than a year old. The program used by Netgear to adjust the router settings reported needing an update. I downloaded the update from Netgear but when launching my antivirus program reports it as infected. I checked the antivirus's forum and was told it contained spyware. Was told to report it to Netgear and ask for software without spyware in it. Cant contact Netgear due to the time frame of when I purchased the router, unless I pay them money for support, so that I can tell them my antivirus wont allow me to run their shitty software.
Im out the expense of the system, the games, the Live! membership, the ISP fees, the router cost, and everyone in the chain of events either want $ for service support or to sell me different components to sort out why all of their shit I'm already paying for doesn't work.
Kid is frustrated with Xbox, asking for a PS4 for his upcoming birthday. Wondering if Im going to run into the same problem with a PS4 not working.
