Story: Buy new HDD, install new copy (never activated key) of Windows 7 Pro 64.
Everything works great, I activate it online. Weeks later to last night I turn my computer on and it is showing up that my Key is invalid I may be victim to counterfeit software????

Just what the hell am I missing here? Is it possible some fucktard got my serial key???

I rarely ever use the computer that has this installation on. Nobody knows of the serial key but me. I have it printed and is with my Software...I have no friends who come over that would of taken it.


I tried calling M$ and all they where doing is hanging up on me and redirecting me to new numbers to call. (Last number they gave me supposedly is the CORRECT number to call, but they where closed)


How in the hell did this happen?
I am sure the monkeys at microsoft will eventually help me, but this is confusing as heck as to how that can happen.
 
Had it happen to me twice last week. Just call the number that pops up on the screen and use the AUTOMATED system for a new code. So far so good this week.
 
Mine is from the MSDN Academic Alliance account the college gave us.
I don't see how the key could of just suddenly go invalid, since I have other stuff (Such as two other 7 installations) that aren't giving me any errors.

Tried everything, even the phone activation can't go through.

When you're polite and you get no where. Patience wear thin.
Not to mention they hung up on me once just because I asked the person to hold on for just a second.

With the same key?
 
Keys are the same for 32 or 64. But you will eventually need to talk to someone at MS to get this cleared up. It is a pain, but it will get worked out.

Hm, how so? I've never been able to use a 32 bit key for a 64 bit install, and same is for reverse.

Then again, I last tried that when I had windows vista.

But regardless, all three are different. Guess when I get home ill call up the number that is suppose to be the right one to call. Just not sure when their support closes.

been able to use vista 32bit keys on 64bit media with vista
 
At some point the other day my SR-2 rig said "Evaluation copy" on the desktop and I was like WTF?
I went into system properties, it said Genuine Copy, activated etc. and then the "Evaluation copy" verbage disappeared from the desktop.

IDK if that "fix" will work for you, but see if pulling up the system properties makes it realize it's legit again.
 
I have seen vista and 7 machines say not activated if you open them on the desktop right after logging into them then change to activated after a few moments
 
I've only seen the activation change from 30 days to 3 days, but never seen them change from activated to not activated like that. If this key is from an account the college gave you, check with them. A friend of mine had an XP Pro key provided by a community college that later stopped working. It is all about the license after all.
 
Once your key is activated, it never go back not activated, maybe you should call the activation service.
 
I have one machine that has a very legitimate copy of W7 and every once and again it will try and tell me it is not a valid copy.

I merely reboot and it corrects itself. Curiously in the windows information panel it says the copy in activated and valid?

Gotta be a glitch somewhere.:D
 
Well does it stay connected to the interwebs? We have copies here that arent web accessable and go invalid or non genuine all the time.
 
Are you using a kms activated copy? if so then you need to allow it to contact your kms server (which will almost certainly be behind a firewall since a kms has no authentication of it's own so if you aren't local to it a vpn will probablly be required) on a relatively frequent basis or it will deactivate. That shouldn't happen on retail or OEM copies though.
