I just opened the box and the first thing I thought was "hell yeah I got my money's worth." Not that packaging costs but 2 cent to make, but the cd sleeves are just straight cool.

Most games coming out now are using cd sleeves, I remember my copy of Neverwinter Nights came in cd sleeves (5 total), but it wasnt cheap packaging because I also got a cloth map and a huge ring book.

Each of the CD sleeves in WoW are highly decorated, each one featuring a differant race.

Just picked up a copy (night elf cover) but, haven't opened it yet. Was hoping I would come across a Collector's Edition before making it home, then I could return the standard version.

Anyone get the CE version? How is it? Worth the $75?

The collector's edition is... beautiful.

The box is thick cardboard stock and looks like a leatherbound book.

Upon opening the box, you are rewarded with a large hard cover art book, 200+ pages. Very beautiful. Removing that, you have the cloth map, rolled up and held with a metal ring and the discs. Its very nice.

I called up every EB/Gamestop and they didn't have any, so I went to Fry's in Downer's Grove. They had 12+ collector's editions.

Not until the majority of PC users have DVD Roms, which won't happen for a few years. So expect CDs for quite sometime.

Have you played the movie DVD yet? I want to know if it comes with all of Blizzard's CG movies like WC3 CE did.

Well the DVD versions of UT2004 and EQ2 were both the fastest to sell out. I think that says there's enough of a demand for have both CD and DVD. I see a DVD came with the collector's edition but the price for it is a little steep.

Oh, and cute kitten.

Well I finally tracked down a CE version. Of all places TARGET. And you guys are right, its a beautiful edition. Very well made....unlike the HL2 CE, I looked at today, (talking about not getting much for your money..same price as WOW's CE).

Have to say this....CompUSA really sucks when it comes to calling their store. I be damn if you can get anyone on the phone for a confirmation. Its all automated.
Of course typical Best Buy rep tells you "yeah, we have it" but, common sense should kick in and say they don't know what the hell you're talking about. Saying that though, if I hadn't gone to Best Buy, I wouldn't have stopped by Target which was right next door.

:)

It was all fine and dandy until that cat came up! What is Blizzard thinking? I hate cats!!!
argh!!!

j/k
great pics.

I am almost willing to bet the majority of the people playing WoW have DVD drives.
On a related note, 78% (940,000) of the people that allowed Valve to add their computer specs to their hardware survey have DVD drives. Thats a hell of a lot more than I expected. Only 185,000 had non-DVD drives.

Thanks a lot, that answers my question. Now to go out tomorow and hunt down a CE copy. I won't be able to play until finals are over, but I might as well buy it before they sell out.

Yep, he came with the CE :) He's my exclusive pet.

The Collectors Edition is so worth it, but the cloth map is seriously a let down. I was hoping for a huge cloth map, as detailed as the maps that come with Morrowind are.

I don't need to know the 3 continents, and I don't need to know where the main cities are. I do however need to know where the main cities are in relationship to the rest of the areas. :( Ah well, I guess that's what the internet is for.

i picked up the ce yesterday and was also really pleased with it, there is so much stuff in there it's going to take me a while to even go through it all, even the manual is huge, i brought it to work to read at lunch heh

The map was a major disappointment to me, the rest of the CE is great. The map is too small and has ZERO detail. It is useless.

I wish they would have sent more copies of the CE, think they would have sold more CEs than regular edition...

Question on CE. Do you get a pet with each new character you create, or just the first character?

I was curious about this myself so, according to the forums over on WOW, you get a pet each time you create a character.

Some people are actually complaining about it because it takes up a single slot in their inventory. However, all pets do and you can always put it in a bank.
