Have a friend with a computer that when he shuts down 15secs later it turns on again. Any suggestions?

check for viruses and check your bios settings under power management. Try turning off the setting to turn on after power loss. For a simple workaround, just hit the hard power switch on the back of the PSU.

also, try a bios update and check for shorts on the power switch line.

I'm having the same problem. No viruses, spyware or anything. Sometimes it restarts instantly, other times it waits a short amount of time. Hitting the hard PSU switch fixes it, but if it is turned back on it'll boot up on its own again (usually not if a long period of time with the switch off). I checked the bios power settings and they appear okay. I just updated my bios but haven't restarted yet. This problem was had on a computer at work at the PSU was swapped out and that fixed it. I don't really understand why that would be it. It was a new PSU. Both are nForce boards. I wonder if maybe there is a problem with them? Probably not.

For the thread starter, since it is a fresh built computer I bet it is the bios settings. I know that that has happened to me a few times.

Sounds like a short or a bad PSU.

It could be a something tripping (shorting) the power switch wires... make sure they arent exposed to anything, or a short in the PSU as said above.
