So my roommate and i have a Linksys wtr54g v2. All was great for about a month till a few weeks ago when the internet would randomly cut out, it would say that it only had local connection only.
At first it was only for about an hour of internet blackout, then i decided to update the firmware, that went fine. everything was great for a week.
Then a week after the internet cut out for a whole day. The first time we thought someone was working on the internet connection at our appt. so we just dismissed it. but then the second time it happened we found out that the rest of our building still had internet, so i plugged an ethernet cable into the router... nothing. then i plugged the ethernet cable straight into the wall and it worked...
Any idea why this would be happening?

upgrade to tomato or dd-wrt, its simple to do, don't be discouraged by some steps.

i put dd-wrt micro on my wtr54g v6, and after some tweaking my p2p rates are literally 10 times what they used to be.

i used to average 40k, which was the swam average, now... 400k no problem.

If you can't get a connection over the wire, your router may be toast. Did you try a hard reset?
