Wireless Only Domain Problem

I have a machine that has two network adapters, the first one is the LAN connection and the second one is the Wireless Adapter. I am having a problem where I am trying to log onto the domain wirelessly but am unable to do so with users that do not have cached logon credentials. Users that do have cached credentials can logon.

How can I get the wireless to enable and connect at the logon screen so that the domain authentication can proceed?

EDIT: the machine is not wired at this point. It's just impossible to get it wired in its current location (Warehouse)
 
If you are using Windows XP's wireless configuration, you can manually configure a connection to an access point. After you do this, you can change the priority of the registered connections. Make sure it is the first one listed. Then, in theory, you should be able to connect properly.

If you are using a third party application to manage your connections, this might be the problem. Some of the third party applications do not start until after the user has logged in. They do not run as a service. So, it can't start the application before a logon occurs.
 
Does the Zero Wireless Configuration utility automatically start then?
I am actually trying both methods, using Zero utility and the Atheros client utility (which doesnt looks very good at this point).

The preferred order to connect to is my wireless network.
 
Well I've done some searching and essentially what the problem is, is that the wireless adapter hasn't started before displaying the logon screen so there's no network connection to even begin with. I've tried searching google but come up with nothing really helpful. I need a way to start the Zero Wireless Config Utility before the logon screen shows. Anyone know if this is possible?
 
WZC is a service and starts before you get to a login. The card may not be associating successfully. That would be something you need play with to get it synced up and the right WLAN SSID and AP cached to it bangs the AP before you get to the login. The service does start before login though. Unless you have a problem on that machine with that service. Event Viewer might help you there if you do.

You manage preferred networks from the XP utility. Make sure Connect to this network when in range on the properties of your preferred network. You could also play with checking auto connect to non preferred networks but it should not be needed.

Yea I tried that, no amount of configuring seems to help. It's as if it's a bug. I've also tried changing the group policy of the computer so that network connections behave more like Windows 2000 network connections, ie, they activate prior to the login screen. This doesn't seem to have any effect either.

Yeah, from what I read of that link they are talking about the intel software. WZC does start and stay running before the netlogon service. It's probably already been asked and answered, but you are running SP2 on those machines right?

I've had this exact problem on Mac OSX with some iBooks. It's basically how everyone else has described it, with the network not starting until login. I'm also sorry to report I do not have a solution.
Perhaps some fancy batch scripting along with an autologin? It's not secure, but a temp solution.
