My friend has a laptop with wireless capability. She has no problems with it except she gets disconnected from aim or hotmail and it re-signs back on immediately. could this be an antenna problem? she's never far from her wireless router as she lives in an apartment. what are your suggestions? new nic card? is there something i can check before having to buy a new one? thanks in advance

I've been running dlink wireless gear for over two years and have never had a problem.

Also more information would be helpful, WEP? 802.11b?g?

I unfortunately don't know what type it is as it's my friend's. She'll be bringing it tomorrow and I'll know more then. Just wanted to maybe get an idea what to look for. I'll post then..

People always say its interference, but I've nver actually seen that as being the case. Try changing channels on the router. Updating firmware for hte router. Updating BIOS and drivers on the wireless computer. I did that to my Inspiron 8600 and it seemed to help qutie a bit. Those are about the only solutions I've come across.

Hi proroer and Bunk454 - let's try to keep this conversation a bit older than junior high, okay? ;)

Jeffster - under the "Wireless Connection Properties" (I'm assuming that they are using XP), make sure that the box for enabling 802.1x authentication box is unchecked. Having it checked can result in frequent disconnects/reconnects.
