I'd like to get internet only service from one of the cell phone companies for my hp dv9000t (express slot).

I'm going to be going all over the US and need one that has good general coverage and basically an unlimited and somewhat speedy data plan. I tend to download lots of stuff and I hope to be able to do some online gaming. Is there one of the companies that will be able to do that?

I havent used it for its intended purpose yet, but I bought a verizon samsung i730 pocket pc phone for the same reason. for 29.99 you can buy pdanet software that alows you to use it as a broadband modem over usb or bluetooth. the plan starts at 79.99 a month for 450 minits and (unlimited) data. however verizon will term your contract if you download over 5gigs a month. Sprint is the only truely unlimited data plan and is the cheapest 15.00 a month added to your voice plan. but they dont have the same coverage in the citys that i need. you can also get the expresss cards for laptops but it is more expensive that way and i needed a new phone anyway. the pdanet.com software will work on any windows mobile 5.0 device and is a better deal than paying 15.00 a month for tethering. hope this helps.
 
Sprint offers the widest coverage and the best speeds currently of the three primary broadband wireless providers (Verizon and Cingular are the others). I've never heard of Sprint "tethering" an unlimited broadband wireless to a phone:

Their pricing is $79.95 a month for unlimited data transfers using either a PC card or Express Card and their EVDO service. If you currently have Sprint cellular service for a phone, they'll allow you to get the broadband wireless for $59.95 a month - a $20 discount, but it's not $15 over the cost of your cellular service.

Things may have changed, but that pricing plan I just mentioned has been the norm for Sprint for a long time now.

it is a widely used software for using your phone as a modem.
some sprint phones (pcc-6700) for example dont even require the software to tether.
and all you have to pay for is vision services which starts at 15.00 a month. sprint cant tell wether your on your laptop or on your phone browsing.
if still you doubt, or want for information on the subject look to this forum. http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ for some insight. this said, if your really going to use this all the time,and as a primary internet connection a laptop card is probably the way to go for the least hassle and headache. I will use the modem feature rarely, and just wanted to check my email without haulling the 8 lbs of Dell 9400 :) .
 
Spring has a 59.99 unlimited plan if you have sprint voice service. 79.99 otherwise.
Im on verizon and can tether over bluetooth with my laptop. Just set it up (its a minor hack) so haven't seen for sure that it doesn't get charged.
