Windows Vista Home Basic

Anybody knows the disadvantage of Windows Vista Home Basic, other than not having aero? Is it pretty much Home Premium minus aero and media center? Does it have any restriction in terms of dual/quad core processor, max memory, etc?

I also read that there is no ready-boost. The info at Microsoft's website doesn't go into details.

I really doubt that you'll want Basic on a modern machine.

It ain't called Basic for no reason, yanno. It's the most basic version of Vista you can get, basically. Gee that just sounds weird don't it?

Bas-- ok, enough of that. Generally speaking, it's worth the slightly increased cost to get Home Premium, definitely.

I really doubt that you'll want Basic on a modern machine.

That comparison doesn't really go into technical details, things like dual-core support, ready boost capability, max memory support, etc.

I don't need media center, aero, windows movie maker, etc. If the underlying OS of Vista basic is the same with Premium, then why not? That's why I ask those questions above, to make sure that MS didn't cripple Vista Basic in certain ways.

Bas-- ok, enough of that. Generally speaking, it's worth the slightly increased cost to get Home Premium, definitely.

There are manufactures that are only offering either Vista Basic or Vista Business/Ultimate for more money, skipping Vista home premium altogether. I don't see why I should pay more money for things I don't care, as long as the underlying OS is the same.
