Windows Pro SP2 is being installed on a brand new system. I manage to go through the setup process (partition, format and copy files) and it then asks to reboot the computer before entering setup to finish. however instead of carrying on with the installation after reboot it simply restarts the installation again. Taking the cd out only results in it freezing.

Im running; AMD64 3000+
Gigabyte K8Triton
Nvidia 7800gt
1768gig RAM (generic, 1g, 512, 256)
2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.8

This problem is very annoying and nonsensical! (as always :) )
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

I would run a diag on your hard drive, and also make sure you have all your BIOS options set up right for your configuration.

^ ;) Id add memtest86+ to that as well

youd get one stop shopping probably with the Ultimate Boot CD, likely having your HDD manufacturers diagnostic, my first looksee however would be your Boot Order and or SATA options\boot buses, your not on a RAID channel are you? Youd need to load SCSI drivers at F6 during the install for RAID

I am having the exact same problem with my new setup, and have yet to find an answer. I have tried everything that was suggested as well.

Dont want to hijack the thread, but since both of us are having the same problem, any ideas from people would be really helpful.

if the memory checked out
attach a single IDE HDD as master on the primary channel
set the first device to HDD0 in the boot order

if it doesnt loop its a BIOS issue

Update BIOS. Worked on this system - Fortunately one of my flatmates suggested it. Looks like CPU wasnt properly supported by the version of the BIOS that shipped with it.

Try it out.
