Windows Media Player Problems

I have been running windows media player 9 on Windows Xp Professional for months now on my laptop with no problems. I also have installed K-Lite Codec pack also with no problems whatsoever. One day it just stopped working and gave me the error message: "The specified module could not be found." whenever I try to open a movie or music file with windows media player. The first thing that came to mind would be to uninstall the player and reinstall it but apparently Windows doesn't allow you to do so. I tried installing newer versions of the player but it still gave me the same error message. The windows media player always opens up fine, but if I try to open a movie it will give me this error. I also uninstalled the K-Lite Codec pack. Has anyone used the utility XPLite, could that solve my problem? Any help fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated
