I'm having a huge issue in that some of my shared folders aren't accessible by other computers on my LAN. I have FINALLY figured out what is causing it! The folders that aren't accessible are the ones on my G drive, which is using NTFS file compression to compress the files (my G drive is a storage drive and so I'm trying to cram as much in as I can...). Does anybody know if there's a way to reactivate file-sharing without having to disable the compression? Because it is really useful. it's managed to reduce my used space by a gigabyte or two allowing me to fit more in.

You can run compression AND file sharing at the same time (I am right now).

Where are you having the problem? Are the shares simply not showing up on the other computer? Can the other computer see any of your shares?

have you checked the ntfs permissions of the shares. There is a sharing tab and a security tab where permissions need to vbe set(unless your using simple file sharing).
 
I have simple file-sharing enabled... Also the problem is that the folders show up as shares when viewed from another computer, but when trying to access them you get a message like this:

The folders on my F drive which are on non-NTFS atm work fine. (I haven't narrowed it down to whether it's NTFS or NTFS+compressed yet).
 
Well I've done a bit of testing and surely enough, its the NTFS (not neccesarily compression) that's screwing things up. Any NTFS volume on my computer can't be read by the other computers, but any FAT32 volumes on my computer CAN be read by the other computers. The other computers all use NTFS but I can still access them... this is weird.

I've tried disabling simple file sharing and trying advanced file sharing too. Still no luck.
