For the first time in years I managed to fry my OS in a way that I can't seem to fix myself.
I tried to install a firmware update for my mouse, using the XP compatibility mode (I thought it was a smart idea at that time!). The Update failed, the PC hang and I had to restart.
Now the PC won't boot up anymore, but hangs when loading Windows 7 (64bit).
I tried restoring an earlier checkpoint, but it still won't boot up. I tried the automatic repair, still hangs.
Booting up in Safemode works, but I don't know where to look and what to do to get it booting again. God I'm getting old and computer illiterate.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions on how to tackle this problem that don't involve formatting.
