Windows 7 experience 6.0 ?

My GTX280 gave me a windows experience score of 7.3.... the ATI 5870 is 6.0.. not exactly what I expected. Not that I can actually tell the difference in windows. Is everyone else getting this? Im getting 16,200 on vantage and just under 17,000 with an overclock of 900/1300.
 
It did that to me at first, run it again. More than likely the card didn't clock to full 3d speeds. The 2nd time mine jumped to 7.8 at stock speeds.
 
I still don't understand why the maximum limit is 7.9 or whatever arbitrary number they came up with.
 
Possibly vsync.

No one is going to confuse the GTX 285 as being faster than the HD 5870. Run some other benchmarks. I had wack scores on Vantage until I realized I had vsync on.
 
WEI is unreliable, especially dealing with graphic cards. My GTX260 scored a 7.2, my 8800GT a 6.8, and my 4890 a 6.0. As you can see, the scores don't line up with real world data. I haven't even taken the time to update my score with my 5870. It's not really worth it. But I will say that the CPU and memory scores are actually useful. We had one poster a while ago ask if his Phenom II should be scoring a 4.8. Obviously it shouldn't. We eventually figured out that his mobo didn't support the CPU without a BIOS update. So WEI isn't totally useless.

No, if you're using a DX10 GPU and a WDDM 1.1 driver, it'll do aero test with some DX10 specific test which simulate gaming performance. If you use just a WDDM 1.0 driver, you'll only get DX9 test.

All my ati 4350 scores 5.8 on the gaming test, then a 3.8 on the desktop test. I first thought it was hypermemory slowing down memory texture speeds, but then I thought it was the core downclocking on 'desktop' stuff.

My 8500gt scored 5.3 on both.

9500gt scored 5.6 on aero, 5.9 on gaming. (this has turbocache!? XFX)

9800gt scored 6.7 on both.

This is in 7
 
Hmm, I've honestly never seen the two scores be different. But then again, I don't have a system that runs anything lower than a 8800GT. I might have to do some research so I can find a definite answer as to why the lower-end cards do that.

I swear it's because of Hypermemory/Turbocache. But that is based off of 3 cards that use system ram (including a 6150LE that is part of a nForce4 chipset...) that I have.

They always had lower desktop performance then gaming. (the 6150LE pulls closer, due to obvious reasons, but's it's too old for me to remember the scores).

I need to get faster ram, to see if it is (more or less) true.

Ach, I just need to disable Hypermemory... somehow. Vista x64 doesn't allow it (Ati Tray tool), and all of 7 doesn't, either.

It will be moot (for me) in about 15 days, when my 9800gt arrives (again, as I traded my first one with a friend for a XFX 9500gt - because of the warranty).
 
I haven't ran it in over two years, but when Vista was first installed I got around a 4.1. Then I ran it again after installing all of the bios, chipset, sound, and graphic drivers and it scored 5.0.

Hell guess I will run it again... was more curious then anything. Can't tell a difference in the OS.

I ran the test a few times and still get 6.0... just odd. It games its ass of though. I wonder if MSI afterburner for overclocking is jacking with it.

For me, I'm already set sure it's Hypermemory, Turbocache, or shared ram, as those are the only products I have with the issue...

But anyway, i bet you get to use windows update at one point and they will fix the benchmark :)
 
Even after overclocking my results don't change.. just wierd. Oh well.

Odd.. what driver? I also went from Nvidia to ATI.. not sure if something got fked up on the swap. Everything else seems ok. My Vantage scores are where they should be. *shrug*.

Did you clean out the nvidia drivers before installing the ATI ones?

I'm using the drivers straight from AMD's website for Win 7 x64, 8.66

Just uninstalled and did a registry clean with Ccleaner. I will probably do a fresh install later on after some official drivers come out. Or atleast wait for a driver that has a lot of improvements and bug fixes then try a fresh reload for the hell of it.

Weird, my GTX 280 OC'd to 285 speeds gave me a graphics rating of 6.5 just now. WTF? Win7 RC1 64-bit.
 
It's probably just random crap interfering with your rating.
I have an Intel IGP laptop that rates higher then my desktop (ATi 4350 - not the best, but still whoops anything Intel has right now)., soley because of the 'desktop aero graphics' section.
