Winchester Problems?

Well I just installed my new Athlon64 3500 Winchester CPU to replace my 3500 Newcastle that I busted (busted=bent the pins while removing stock HSF)
Now Windows XP will not startup
I have 2 sticks of Corsair XMS 512 and an MSI NeoPlat2 mobo using the latest 1.3 BIOS. The system would not post w/ both of them in. With only one stick in the board Windows will go through the startup screen and give me the blue screen of death right before the "welcome" screen and reboot.
I ran memtest on both of the sticks and they came up w/ no errors
Tried booting in Safe mode. no luck. same w/ reinstalling windows.
Now i know the Winchester's have been giving people problems but MSI boards seem to have supported them and i have the latest BIOS
Now could the problem be:
1. My Mobo/Socket was damaged removing the CPU (it came out stuck to the HSF and there is some AS5 on the socket)
2. Graphics card since it was OCed
3. Bad Memory or CPU
Any help/advice would be appreciatied Thanks!!
 
at what point does it stop in the windows setup?

It BSODs in safe mode?

Ensure all the BIOS settings are stock or running at autodetected levels.

How did AS5 get on the socket? Make sure ALL of it is off, it may be getting in between the pin and the socket contacts (good thing its not electrically conductive).
 
If i choose windows reinstall it goes to a blank screen and reboots. If i choose recover it freezes while examining the HD
BIOS is set to normal and failsafe defaults
I intitially took off the stock HSF and put AS5 on the cpu. When i got my new HSF in is when the cpu stuck to the HSF and came out w/ it and i ended up getting AS5 on the socket when reinserting the cpu
 
there still is some AS5 in the socket so i'm feeling it might be the mobo. any suggestions on the mobo or should i stick w/ MSI?

it is electrically conductive, that's why you're not supposed to get it around the small resistors on the bartons and previous cpu's. i think your problem is #1. and, BTW, i'd get an abit AV8. sounds like a really great board to me. that's the one i'll be going with when i get my winchester.

Better prep your NF7-S for a hotflash then, at least if you're getting one fairly soon. The 90nm cpu's and AV8 do not play nice together unless the AV8 has >=1.5 bios. My babies purring along though, I got the bios chips mixed up during the process though, flashed the NF7-S chip hehe, so now I have to eventually hotflash the other chip for the NF7-S to use.
 
hey, Runner, does your AV8 unlock the higher multipliers on your winchester, or do you have only the FSB to OC with, if you oc? and yes, i anticipate having bios problems. i read about some of that crap on reviews people put on newegg. but thanks 4 the tip.

From Artic Silver website:

"Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.
(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)"

So its capacitive, not conductive; and THAT'S why you shouldn't put it around traces and pins and such.

But I agree any on traces or in the socket would be a problem.
