Widescreen Codec, Can't stand letterbox effect

Okay, here goes, I hate the letterbox effect I can't stand it. So my question is, does anyone know of any codec that will stretch or even change the aspect ratio of any video to 16:9 or even better 16:10? My gateway pannel has 16:10 and when I view 4:3 movies I get the letter box on the Left and right and when I view movies in 16:9 Sometimes I get small letter box on top and bottom depending on movie. The good news is games run full screen no matter what.

you dont need any codecs for that.

zoom player and windows media player classic have a stretch function (stretch to fullscreen)
makes every video 16:10

Nero Showtime will do 16:10, but there's still bars on the top and bottom.

I have tried everything except nero. I'll give it a shot. The thing is you would expect if you have a 4:3 monitor when you play a 4:3 movie it would play full screen. When you play a 16:9 movie you get letterbox effect. That's expected. I expected on my widescreen if you play 4:3 you get the letterbox effect on the left and right but I expected a widescreen movie to be fullscreen. I just haven't gotten that yet. There has to be a way to make this happen.

read my post above. zoom player aswell as mpc (media player classic) do that. you can set the players to "stretch" ANY video to widescreen or whatever you like it to be.

Not all movies at 16:9 (1.78) even if they are labeled widescreen. Many movies are 1.85 - 2.39, so you'll get letterboxing. If you stretch to get rid of the letterboxing you're just distorting the picture.

Winamp also has an option to disable the aspect ratio lock, so you can stretch it to whatever crazy shape you want. (Like the shape of your screen for instance)

I'll try winamp, zoom player, media player classic, & nero. I'm not sure if I'll have the time because I got alot to do this week but I'll try and post pics. I'll also try and post results and which works best.

I second that, many movies labeled "widescreen" are wider than 16:9 so you'll get letterbox no matter what unless you stretch it. I hate the letterbox as well but I hate stretching even more.
