I have a laptop with WinXP and a desktop with dual booting...WinXP and Win2K. They are on an ethernet LAN that shares an internet connection. I recently installed the Linksys VPN 4-port router and seemed to gain some speed over the network compared to the off-brand router I had before. However, I just recently set both computers' network settings up through the XP network setup wizard and a day or two later, after setting sharing permissions, the computers don't see each other. My next step eventually will be a reformat and re-installation of the hard drive and operating systems respectively.

What causes the network to lose the workgroup or stop communications between computers? Especially just after the network was set up and nothing has been rebooted?
I've tried rebooting each computer as my latest resort, and nothing worked still.

so they worked at one time? try running the setup wizard again (win xp first)
 
K, I'll try it once more, but once I do, it always goes out. Is there spyware out there that could cause this? What else could it be?

Here's something....It has started I noticed about a month ago and goes whenever I run the network setup wizard. The Subsystem Spooler App comes up as an error and asks to send error report or not. What is the subsystem spooler app? Could it have something to do with my issue?
