So, I'm going to purchase the 3400+ combo deal, and I was wondering which motherboard was better. The one in my sig. or the one that comes with the deal (Biostar NF325-A7)? And might as well ask this, what kind of gains am I going to notice with the 3400+ and 1gig more memory?

more details please.. 3400 what..? sempron, clawhammer athlon, venice athlon??? Thats a 754 pin. If you are also buying more memory and a motherboard, why not just upgrade to AM2? You can pick up an AM2 combo for pretty darn cheap as well. How much are you planning on spending?

-Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M
-BIOSTAR NF325-A7
-PC CHIPS M861G V1.6
Out of those, if you absolutely want to buy this combo, the Gigabyte is the only worthy option IMO. I've run a tv studio with about 25 computers, and I had a few of them running biostar motherboards, and never had any luck with them. 8 out of 10 of my biostar mobos died within a year. PC Chips is another cheap knockoff mobo that I've had die in the past when I used to use them.
BUT, if you are just upgrading your current system in which you run a 754 pin A64 2800+ (clawhammer/venice?), you are not going to see much of a difference, if any in real world apps. You might pick up under a second of less lag when processing a task I would bet. The cheapest way to notice a better performance increase with your current system without spending more money is just to upgrade your memory. (1gb would be all I'd throw into a 754 pin since you should upgrade that whole setup sooner or later to 939 or AM2, intel, etc..)
If this was me, I would not buy because its a waste of money. That is 2 or 3 series of sockets behind the current architecture. Ahead of 754 there is 939, 940, and AM2. If you wanted to upgrade on a budget and still use your same RAM, the 939 pin dual core's are a smoking deal now. For a little over $200, you can pick up a dual core processor/mobo combo and notice a HUGE difference from what you have now. You could still remain AGP as well, or have the option of a PCI-e mobo.
If you wanted to do a complete upgrade still on a budget, go for AM2. The dual core and single core processor prices are the same as 939's. You would have to go PCI-e with AM2, as well as use DDR2 memory. If you go that route, I'd pick up a Nforce 550 or 570 mobo, a X2 3800 dual core, and maybe 1gb or 2gb of ddr2/800 ram depending on what you do.
