9800gtx+ $250
GTX260 $340
4870 $300
4850 $200

I want some sort of future proofing, lol if thats possible, like far cry 2 starcraft 2 etc, I am tossing up between keeping my dual, or getting a quad too (cpu), but yer, i play at 1690x1050 on a 22", What is good value for my money? currently have 8800gtx

If you could do dual 4850's i would say that one. Read [H]'s review on p/p review of all the new cards.

Where are you getting these prices from? Take a look at the HOT DEALS forum. Fry's has the 4870 for $210 AR. Hope you have one near you. That's what I would have liked to get but I already exceeded my budget a bit with my current setup.

oh wow, sorry forgot to say it is in AUS dollars, and that these are the best prices, (i have a seller account, so i get it way below rrp)

I do not know if i can do 2x4850's with my ip35Pro, i dont think so?

your motherboard does support crossfire. in that case, i would highly suggest you get the 2 4850's in crossfire.

APCViewer: The 4870 was $250 in this week's sunday ad. Where'd you get the $200 figure from?

the ip35 pro supports 1 16 lane slot and another 4 lane slot for crossfire. because of the board that you have, i would go for the 4870. i am running 1 right now (the other is rma) and can run crysis warhead on enthusiast settings at 16x10. you havent mentioned what you want to do with this card, or the size of your monitor. there is no such thing as future proofing, but in your price range this is probably the way to go.

It is? I guess I remembered it wrong. For some reason, I was sure it was $200... I no longer have the Sunday ad to double check. Tried to check the Best Buy online ad but I cannot stand the over use of Flash/Java so I gave up... But thanks for correcting me.

Yeah the 4870 was $250 at Best Buy. Some Frys B&M had it for $210 (or at least gave you a chance to argue for a price match).

Got HD4850 at Fry's for under $100 with MIR. Read up on the Fry's HD 4850 deal thread.

thanks for the info guys, so in other words i want to stick with one card, and i did say my monitor size... 22"= 22 inch, 1680x1050 is what i play at, i want to play games, high settings etc, so why the 4870 over the 260?

I am using an IP35 vanilla on a 20" monitor currently. I recently went from an HD3870 IceQ 3 Turbo to an HD 4870 512MB. I also upgraded from E6850 to E8500. I am totally satisfied with dual core performance as opposed to quad core. I overclocked my 4870 to 795/1100 (XOC Black Edition bios) cool and stable. E8500 @ 3.405GHz and I'm done til late 2009 unless something breaks. I game at 1280x1024 and I believe I can handle any game available until i7 takes over. Just my humble opinion though. If you get a 4870, get the 1GB version because the price has dropped to 512MB level now!;)
