I'm trying to add local printers to a users machine here at work. I go to add printer, "local Printer attached to this compter" option, then when I go to creat a new port, the local port option is not there. Now, he has over 800 printers on his PC because they print docs to users accross the country. Can it have something to do with the ini files? I've never seen this before, help a fellow [H]ardforum member out!
 
And I thought this would go to the OS sub forum because I was thinking it could be a OS related issue?
 
What kind of interface is the printer? Is this directly connected by a cable, or is it a network printer with an IP address?

They are all network printers with an IP address. There is 821 printers, so I'm assuming the ini or inf files are corrupted. They are all HP.
 
If it is a network printer then you need to create a standard TCPIP port not a local port.

I still feel we are lacking some information here. What OS is it? As said above, it sounds like you need to create a TCP/IP port, if we correctly understand what you are trying to do. If you already have 800 of them, I assume you know how to do it. Are you talking about the Add a printer wizard, where it asks you if you want to add a local or network printer, and there are options missing?

Yes, exactly! And it's XP.

I go to the printer wizard, and the local port is missing. I discovered it might be a print migrator issue. I will follow up when I go into work tomorrow.
