Weird Burner Problem..

I just recently ripped a CD with it to make a slipstreamed ISO for WinXP and when I go to burn it, it says the drive failed to initialize and I might have a bad disc. Ok, no problem. I put in a different disc (same brand) and it still gives me the same error. So I try, yet again, another disc but this time it's a different brand. Same thing. So I go to reboot and on the IRQ screen where it checks for bootable CDs, it hangs when the blank disc is in (something it's never done before). So I take it out, go back into Windows, put the disc back in, open My Computer and it hangs. Now what makes this all weird is it only does it with blank media, but I put in a cd with something on it, burned and legit, it reads it fine.

What's going on?
