Web design process, how do YOU do it?

Just curious as to how your process works when you design your sites.

Lately, I've been starting with layout/graphics before anything, followed up by some pseudo code, then the actual coding. The reason is, getting the layout done first give me more direction on the pseudo and coding. I tried to build a site today and started with the back end PHP coding. I stared at the blank php document with writer's block, even when just writing pseudo code.

How do you guys work it out?
 
1. deciced what you need - layout it out on paper
2. install any need items on server - php /mysql if needed
3. design layout in dreamweaver
4. add php or asp code as needed.

Decide on color palette
General Layout ( One column? Two column? Three coloumn? Top nav? Left Nav? etc..)
Gather neccessary stock imagery (from legit sources, not google images)
Photoshop (design/slice/output images)
Dreamweaver (code all neccessary templates/duplicate as needed - CSS & XHTHL and any other languages needed to meet the needs & scope of the site)
Then off the server. :D
 
I do it at the dreamweaver level.

I build the xhtml frame. Copy that into a style sheet. Run a few search and replaces, and bam! I now have an empty framework for the CSS layout. And in another pane the xhtml that uses the newly created framework. I will stop there, I have already said too much :D

What version of DW are you using too? I have MX2k4 right now, is 8 worth the money to upgrade? Some of the coding features look pretty rad, but I don't know if I should wait and see what they crank out now with the whole Adobe=Macromedia thing.

On the other hand, I can get a nifty student discount right now with 8 :)
 
I always just notepadded my way to the basic layout, with some basic representative graphics as placeholders. Then it's just a matter of making refinements. CSS, Photoshopping, and coding.

I've never used a wysiwyg editor. It's always been notepad and vim for me....usually vim.

I've always started out with a basic plan of what it needed to look like, which was a matter of brainstorming a bunch of basic designs and showing them to the powers that...were. They'd approve one or two and it'd be up to me to make it work, make changes where necessary, and flesh it out.

I've never really done the heavy graphic basic sites. They've always been applications, rather than web pages.

Web pages are images/artwork now a days, draw it in adobe and then make it work. Tis a sad reality we live in when changing the background and adding <blink> tags just isnt enough anymore.
