im about to reformat my 36gb raptor... gonna reinstall windows etc... any tips for optimization? i never messed with the block data or whatever its called... whats the best settings?
 
You're not gonna mess with that "block data" stuff because it's SATA and it's all set automatically in your BIOS. Check out www.tweakguides.com to find out how to optimize your WinXP install. (unless, of course, you're installing Linux)
 
if you have two of them in raid... you can specify the cluster size. I think that is what he is talking about...

as for hints:
1. Back up all documents & files that you need.
a. most people forget Outlook Express files:
------ C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{lxxxxxxxx}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

2. download all drivers for all devices ahead of time. (especially for your network card and burn them on CD-rom with back up stuff)
a. chipset drivers (get most recent while you're doing this)
b. video, sound, LAN, modems, etc...

3. Apply all patches to windows

4. Reinstall applications
